How dodgy are they? Talking about the one coming up Easter weekend, not a breed specific sale. Friend who is experienced but not local but staying in the area over Easter is looking for a project pony/field companion. She’s trying to convince me to come with her but I can just see myself coming home with a ragged foal pity buy that costs a bomb in vet fees.

I mean, there will be some horses tied up without access to food/water, some scraggly young things (although perhaps not as young as the Welshies you see at Brecon), and probably some big horses on the skinnier side given the cost of hay over the winter. But the overall standard wasn’t as bad as I was expecting when I went - I didn’t have an overwhelming urge to buy something, and I’m pretty sentimental.

I might go with her then- I had visions of returning with a bedraggled welsh A foal in the back seat.

I just always wonder why you’d enter them in sales when those types get queues of buyers for them! I guess uber fussy vettings may put sellers off
No 3 dozen messages "prce and higt pls" when they're in the advert.
No 3 dozen "is it suitable for a novice" when you said it isn't
No "need to view at exactly 7.34 on Tuesday" then no-show
No brought 6 cousins with me because we all want a free ride- then actually we don't want a grey and yours is too tall.
No agreed to buy then ghost you.

I think time wasters are the biggest reason why nice horses are entered in sales. You're guaranteed a sale provided you accept the highest price offered and don't think too hard about who the buyer is. Of course, dodgy sellers will also enter troubled/injured/not as described horses in the sales and you have to have your wits about you to suss them out. In my opinion, something that looks perfect but that is clearly stated as being off warranty or sold as seen would put me off bidding as these statements mean the 48 hours offered by the market to get the horse vetted and have a right of return are negated.
