Right, I am going to put my hands up and admit that my worming in the past has been slightly haphazard in that I never sat down and worked out a future plan for the year, I just went into the tack shop every six/twelve weeks depending on what wormer I had used the previous time and the very nice lady in there advised me what I should be using at that time of year (

In my defence I had 3 horses on 14 acres of our own land, they were all ours and wormed together etc and fields were kept rotated etc. Did a worm count and they were all ok last summer.
However they are now on a liver yard as of the start of this year which doesn't have a co-ordinated plan, and having sold one of ours we are going into a field with two other horses, and I would like to put in place a proper worming plan for the 4 of them. Previously had still just been my 3 turned out together.
So I have had a look a few places and my suggestion from now is:
In next couple of weeks, Panacur 5 day Guard to be sure that nothing is hanging over from the winter
End of april, use Equimax to do general and tapeworms.
Beginning July, Equimax again to do general worming
End sept Equimax for general/tapeworms
Mid december, encysted redworms, robably equest
End Jan, bots, equest again?
Then this time next year (mid march probably) 5 day guard again.

Does that make sense? Should I use something more specific for the tapeworms? Or is equimax ok to do that as well as general worming over the summer?

Also should I change that next year or could I go round that plan again without risking them building up an immunity?

Hope that makes sense, I really want to be more organised about this this year and possibly encourage the rest of the yard to do the same....

I woukd soeak to your vet practice as im not sure what the drugs are and they when best to do it.

Good luck worming is a nightmare

the simpliest way and what I do is
equest in jan,
equest pramox april - tapeworm,
equest again july
equest paramox oct - tapeworm

and was told you dont need to rotate that (unless worms decide to become resistant to equest

Thanks for replies all. I'd like to get to stage of doing worm counts etc but think I need to do a year of a strict regime, then drop down to the worm counts and worming as necessary! Guessing as no-one has shouted yet my plan can't be too bad so will go with that I think!

i use a yearly pack this is more simple and less money and then i add a five day course at the end of decemder to make sure evrything is done

To be honest I wouldn't use your plan, you are mixing wormers and it all looks a bit haphazard.

I personally think the best plan on the market is equest/pramox:

pramox spring
equest summer
pramox autumn
equest winter

You can even leave out the equest during summer/winter and worm count instead

Sorry, but I tend to agree here, I don't really like your proposed plan. Either use the Year pack or get specific advise from either your vet or smeone like Abbey Diagnostics.

agree with the others, your plan is not good - it includes panacur which is rubbish and far too much equimax. just use equest and equest pramox alternately every 13wks and it will cover everything.
