I had the vet out for routine dental check for Buzz yesterday only for him to find a huge tumour in his mouth. Came back and did x rays today, which show a mass basically the length of his upper jaw.
He had teeth done around a year ago and nothing was seen then, so can only assume it's relatively fast growing.
He's eating and working fine at the moment, not fussy in the mouth at all.

Next step is a biopsy to find out if it's malignant or benign. According to vet it's inoperable due to location so only treatment would be steroids and/or chemo.
In shock at the moment, never had an inkling that anything was wrong, he's never looked fitter or more healthy.

Vibes for my beautiful boy please :(

Oh how horrible I am very sorry, my horse was in a similar medical situation earlier this year (bone cancer in the skull) I completely sympathise with you.
But the main thing is he is happy in himself, fingers crossed for a good outcome.

How is your boy Shrimp?

I'm going to get a second opinion or have him referred to a specialist but need to wait for labs to open after Christmas.

I did manage to take advantage of the sedation to get a good cuddle in though

He is doing fantastic all things concerned! He had a biopsy taken from right in he middle of his forehead and then due to the nature of the cancer the bone fragmented causing very large ulcers over his face ( I won't post the pics....) He was in intensive care for 10 days after the ulcers got removed and there was a stage we thought we were going to lose him but he pulled through to all the vets amazement. This was in May and we made it to the BD regionals just over two months later :)
His beautiful head is a little disfigured now due to bony lumps but can only notice when close to his head. So technically he still has the cancer but it is not spreading, he is very happy in himself (though now recovering from a minor suspension injury!) and looking really well.
This cancer was so rare that our vet had never seen anything like it in his 25 years and his biopsy was also sent to Leahurst and somewhere in America to be analysed! We've no idea how long he'll last or whether it will spread, we take each day as it comes :)
I really really hope it all turns out good for you, don't give up hope yet :)

Trying hard not to think about worst case, and just hope can get better news from specialist. In the meantime he can still be ridden so going to carry on with plans to go cross country schooling on Saturday to give him a fun day.
He's only 7, have just entered him for his first JAS in Jan :(
