considering some of the horses i have ridden i think i have done well to only have the injuries i'm about to tell you guys!

dislodged a disk in my back falling onto a cross-country jump when my childhood pony stopped and i carried on going! My back is still not right, i carried a lot of weight and support across my shoulders to compromise my lower back, which rounded me off as a rider for a bit and now i am straight backed again i'm having a lot of physio on my upper back to sort my posture...

Then fell off a breaker and got my finger caught in the reins and it pulled it out of the joint as i got dragged across the menage. Then later that week as it was just starting to heal i had another youngster scare himself jumping the first half of a double and burying himself in the second half causing him to fall over (all happened very fast) and what did i do to break my fall? stuck out that one finger, it's never been the same since!

Then finally, i had my last jumper out doing road work, and he spooked at a van and went up and over with no warning, and it caught my hip, and i didn't think anything of it, until 3 weeks later when i was jumping a youngster and he took a flier and went air born and it jumped me out of my seat a bit and my hip half popped out and i blacked out... so had a 6 month break after that and now my hips better(fingers crossed!!)

God we love these animals! if we're not paying vet bills for them we're off to a&e ourselves!

Broke my vertabrae in Feb 2010. Surgery, 3 weeks in hospital, back brace for 15 weeks, crutches for 4 months. Will never ride again, mainly because I dont want to, but also because of pain I am in now. So not a great day!

Wow I feel incredibly lucky! Only ever had bad bruising from falls - been riding since before I could walk too. Only thing is that riding from such a young age with loose joints as it is has made my hips clicky and prone to trying to dislocate :/ nothing near as impressive as you lot!
Have seen some nasty falls though, I work in a trauma operating theatre and we do get some naaaaaaaaaaaasty breaks!

Feeling very lucky!

Broke my pelvis when one went up and over and the pommel of the saddle squashed the left hand side of my hip.

Then just fingers, collarbones, ankles and plenty of ribs.

Oh, and got stood on in wellies in the freezing weather, couldn't feel my feet so didn't realise for an hour that I had in fact chopped the end of my big toe off and had to have it reattached. Wish they hadn't bothered tbh, as it gives me more pain than anything else!

De-gloving, kicks in face, holes in heads. There but for the grace of God!!

All because he didn't fancy doing trotting poles that day!

Fractured & Crushed verterbrae, pins, bone graft and a lovely 10 inch scar.

Haven't been able to ride in over 12 months until the pins are out and even then I don't know whether I'll ever have the confidence :(

Compound fracture of tib and fib. I went over jump alone, then decided to cat leap and landed on my leg. To be honest i felt no pain as adrenalin kicked in, just really peeved that brand new leather boots had to be cut off!! They obviously brought v bad luck though. 23 years on still got dent in leg and it is starting to ache on long walks.
Also went through narrow gate as i had done many time before, except I forgot to raise my knees on this occasion resulting in slicing my knee open! I had to just let it happen as did not want to spook horse. Scar still there.
Finally (i hope!) scar on face where very food protective horse launched at me with his teeth when i popped head over door for final check of the day. Nice flap left between my mouth and note, but good stitching and hardly noticeable now

Just getting over maybe not my worst but most bizarre horse through me and trampled my leg thought it was broken but it was not was kept in hospital for four nights due to compartment syndrome then the tissues at back of my leg died and turned black I thought I had MSRA and freaked out but tissue had hot narcortic due to being crushed , it turned a deep black and was startingto come away from healthy tissue. Looked so disgusting , they had to operated and cut it away and do skin grafts
so I'm left with what looks like a shark bite out the back of my leg. Was off my work for 8 weeks.

In 18 years of riding my worst injury I have had is a fractured wrist, and that was when I was 8 :D Does that make me lucky or really talented?!? lol

*hope I don't jinx myself now and kill myself tomorrow now!*

I have the exact same!! Every time i swing my leg over the saddle, my hip comes out a little bit and goes back in! And makes the loudest clicking noise ever! :D

I slipped on ice last February and got trampled when horse spooked. I pulled myself up on fence and just pulled my head out of the way as horse bucked as he went past. He caught my shoulder. I badly damaged my left ankle (doc at hospital said it was 'mashed'!), my calf and knee were black and blue, my shoulder was giving me a lot of pain but wasn't broken and was badly bruised. I was on crutches for two weeks.

Not the 17th surely?

I'm a Nov 17th!
Think my joints are fairly ok, though (non horse related) if I'm leaning on/ propping myself up with my arm, my shoulder gets "stuck" and I've to use my other arm to move it. Now, I thought this was a standard thing but apparently not...

Worst horse related injury was a broken elbow when I was 11 (or so). It didn't hurt but my lower arm was in the wrong place and didn't match up with my upper arm so off we went to the hospital, 2 hour drive on bumpy rural roads with my arm taped up with gaffa tape. Got to the hospital, nurse took a look and thought there was definitely something not wrong so was rushed through xrays, doctors saw xrays and had a mini melt down - there was a point of broken bone pressing into an artery, if the bone had moved at all, it would have burst the artery (so the drive over was not a good idea). Got send off in an ambulance to a fancy hospital and rushed into surgery at stupid o'clock in the morning to get arm re-set and 4 inch pins put in. Spent two months in a cast from fingers to shoulder, 18 inches in diameter.

Most recent was some sort of damage to my ankle, jumped awkward, landed wonky, horse went on, I went over the shoulder but my foot stayed with the horse. Thought I broke my ankle tbh as it was so sore to walk on, so hopped back up. Took 5 weeks before I got it looked at, had a range of opinions from various doctors - torn ligaments, soft tissue damage and even a possible fracture. Took 9 weeks and lots of physio before I could ride all the same though

Horse threw me off and trampled my leg crushing it, admitted to hospital with compartment syndrome (google it :) ) tissue died and the had to cut it away and do grafts over the top, all just from bad bruising they could not understand how leg did not break. Left with a shark bite outta my leg now , was off my work for 8 weeks. No skirts for me again, it would scare small children :)

Blowing 3 ligaments in my knee... 4 hour operation bolts screws, half my hamstring, a dead persons achillies tendon and rope (personally looked a bit like baler twine.. if they had said before hand I would have brought my own in and saved the NHS some money :) ) all from jumping off my horse and landing with my legs straight. Apparently I was on par with someone who had been hit by a car at 60mph, well relating to my knee.. im guessing they were a lot worse off in other parts of their body!

Funnily enough though the most painful was when I stuck the pitch fork through my foot the other month... ouchy ouch!!

Can I also join the group of arthritis? Ive had ligamental damage in one knee and a myoscopy in the other.. both lead to eventual arthritis :/ Luckily it will be osteo and I can have both my knees replaced :)

Are yours rheumatoid or osteo?

Of course you can join our arthritis group :D the more the merrier! Fortunately I'm not quite there yet, but I do have some seriously messed up legs! And nothing I can blame on the horses haha
