Yesterday we were taking math to the last show of the season at our riding club.He was acting up abit in the morning but thought he was just a little fresh.
well at 1st he wouldnt load then he finally decided to go in and stood and munched his haynet while the other pony was loaded and we left the yard about 10mins into the journey he started kicking out in the box so we pulled over and i checked incase he boot had slipped or anything but he was fine and he somtimes does have a little kick but not all the time so this carried on about 15mins later and as we pulled into the showground our friends who were driving behind told us on the corner his bum went down and when we got him off he had ripped one of his travel boots off and also had cut his back leg in the processes nothing deep though just took the skin of so we put some cream on and he was also very lame so he didnt do anyshowing instead i kept him walking while the others did there show.We were very worried he wouldnt go back in the trailer but this time he dragged me back in we put his boots on and used a bandage instead of the broken travel boot incase he stood on himself again.
but on the way home he was even worse we had to keep pulling over to make sure he hadnt gone down.eventually about 5mins from home i decided to be very stupid and get in the box and see what was going on and he did what i can only descibe as try to get down he was leaning onto the side of the trailer and his back legs were going down but then he got back up when we got him of the trailer ( me a wreck as i thought he was colicing) he just calmly walked to his stable and ate his hay.
I just dont know what he was doing and know im worried about taking him out again when hes come sound completly.
Hes normaly the most amazing horse to box he never shouts has a odd kick but will stand in for ages and he normaly loads himself.
My dad drives slow when towing as you should do so i dont think he could be unsteady
Our trailer is a Ifor Williams 510? (the small one)
Could anyone have any ideas ? should i get the vet as it crossed my mind he could have some head trauma and cause him to do this.
its really knocked me seeing him do this.
Hes pretty much sound already just keeping him in a sick paddock with my other horse so he doesnt run around so much.but when he is sound were going to load him and take him up the road and back see what he does and then if hes fine increase the journey , this sound like a good idea?
sorry for the masssive post but i dont know what to do =/
