Hi guys,

I'm writing an article for my journalism course.

I was wondering what kind of things have you encountered this winter?
What kind of problems have you had?

Any responses would be great!

Thanks :D

numb fingers....... makes everything 10x more difficult!

more mucking out!!!!!!! cos horses are in for longer :/

Car not starting its fair weather like many dog walkers, dark mornings always makes me late as I've no alarm clock and rise with the sun  Grit on the roads... I spend half my time washing my dog and cats feet to get rid of the salt and chemicals that they walk in and then lick which gives me a vet bill and an ill pet :( Iced over water troughs!!

Beyond that I love winter fewer people around, not bothered about the cold its a chance to wear all my dodgy granny jumpers :D

Having a horse with copd and not being able to soak haynets!!! Also the field being rutted & frozen and worrying she'll injure herself everytime she goes out :(

Frozen sand school
Frozen path on way to sand school
Icy roads
Turnout on hardcore pen only
Not remembering what ur horse looks like in daylight
Not wanting to take rugs off long enough to groom

Mud, although when its really cold that goes.
When its too cold for farmer to switch water on to barn even in the day for a bit, & we have to lug it from the other side of their house. And when the trough freezes solid & we have to haul it to the field too daily.
I like the cold, but have reynards & hate it when my hands & feet are too cold to work properly.
And hate going out to the garden from the warm house for a smoke. Even in two dressing gowns & my yard coat, hat & gloves I can barely smoke for shivering.

poor maintenance of the road and travel systems during snow and icy weather. Make driving a rear wheel drive car ruddy dangerous and when the buses stop running too because the council's don't grit the side roads you can't ruddy well get anywhere!

Hungry foxes so have to lock up chickens and geese before sunset

Icy roads, especially as I have to go down a very steep single track to get out and when it was sheet ice and frozen snow in dark and had to get to work, low ratio 4wd, let car take itself and sit still and hope to get to the bottom safely.

People who think they can bring their sledges out to country side and just climb over a gate into a field and do whatever they want, never think to ask land owner if they mind or consider livestock. (My sister solved this by puting notice on gate saying sledging £5.00 - most drove on by, but some did offer to pay!)

Also having front and back doors that dont fit properly and having to stuff tea towels in the gaps to stop the draft! and no central heating! :(

People not realising water freezes and emptying water buckets over the yard >:( and of course all the extra haynets that need filling been victim to hay in bra less than pleasant!
