I really struggle to get all my eventers hacked out enough, due to lack of time and lack of anyone to hack out with, so they end up in the school if I am short of time, as I can get alot more done in a shorter space of time. I try to get them out twice a week though as think it is important for their brains to have a break, especially the youngsters.

Was thinking the other day how much nicer it would be to ride out with someone, and even better, how much easier it would be to have someone hack with me on one of mine, killing 2 birds with one stone (or exersising 2 horses with one hack

I cannot afford to employ anyone, but wondered what the chances were of finding someone who wanted to hack out once a week on a nice well schooled event horse, just for the fun of it! Highly unlikely?!

Based in suffolk, just in case anyone is keen

It's worth an ask around and maybe some local adverts. It's exactly the type of thing I have looked for in the past. Maybe you could even ask at a local good riding school to see if they have any experienced riders who might be interested?

Five years ago I would have been begging at your door

plus IM norfolk suffolk based there must be someone who would love the chance.

If i didnt have my own I would jump at the chance

Just the sort of thing i was looking for before i got mine...and i would have done it for free!
Im sure you'll get someone no problem, but you may get a few numpties as well!

I'd probably put a add up in a local tackshop/feed merchantswhich would indicate horsey people..not dreamers

think you would deffinatly find one, id love to just hop on ah orse with no worried and go for a hack, even though ive got my own

but ye i think you would easily find someone, ditto above probs put an add in your tack shop

I'd bite your hand off if I were nearer but sadly I'm surrey.
Before advertising I'd try word of mouth. Ask horsey contacts as it's always better to have someone recommended. I definitely don't think you'll have trouble finding someone.

agree with Walrus - if there are any decent riding schools or instructors locally, have a word with them. You might even get some nice person who would be prepared to muck out, clean tack, groom etc etc for the privilege of a nice hack!

I have often thought the same too! I would love to be able to call on an experienced, trustworthy person to hack out and help keep my horse ticking over, as I have to work away quite regularly and I currently pay my instructor to do it, at huge expense.
My boy is very talented and exudes presence, but I've never had the courage to assume anyone would be able to safely handle him, as he's huge, and quite highly strung. Everyone else on my yard is quite nervous, and they all have very quiet horses so I can't offer anyone there the ride.

I for one would love too but i am far too far away!
My 2 are rising 2 so i can't ride!
My friend has showjumpers and she lets me take one of them out when i like, i insist on helping her do the mucking out for having the pleasure of the ride!

It sort of depends how far away you are from me, (Cambridge), but I am looking to get back in the saddle, and might be able to

From my experience you don't usually get very proficient people, that is the only draw back, often people from riding schools etc.

In saying that i have had some good people in past.

I have exactly the same situation - two horses to exercise and little spare time. I currently pay an instructor to hack them out once a week - it would be great to have someone ride out with me and even better if they were prepared to help with some of the stable jobs, too!

Another idea is to try colleges and Universities. I found 2 sharers via the Uni riding club and they were both experienced, reliable and lovely people.

I second this. Often these are the people who are experienced and competent but have had to sell their own because of going off to study and the advantage of them is that they usually have lots of free time during the week.

If you were looking for someone older you might find they are restricted to weekends only due to a 9-5 office job.

I've been looking for someone to hack out my old pony with me on my horse but had no luck at all. Only had 2 calls and they were from people who weigh more than I do (reason I cant ride the pony as Im too heavy!). Thought a local kid would have loved a chance like this but clearly not!
