would i brake her back ?? lol

Hmmm, I think you may be at the top end of what she would carry comfortably..but it is so dependant on type/riding..
I have a 14.1, Newforest, not mega amount of bone.
I am 5'1", 11st 10 and ride him fine. Though I am on a mega weight loss drive as I want to reschool him (at the moment he is in light hacking mode.) However, he carried me fine last year at that weight, small jumping etc but I think its only fair to him if I drop another stone to stone and a half :)
Just to show what I look like on my 14.1, bear in mind I have really short legs..
Im only three quarters of a stone lighter than you and I dont think Im too big on him.
I wouldnt ask him to work too hard ATM though.
Also funnily enough, I would definately have to think about anyone more than my weight riding him much..
So, maybe if you havent bought her, really think about it.
On the upside though, its the best motivation for weight loss that there is!!

Piggyinablanket - that horse looks like he could carry heavier! He looks like he's carrying you fine! :p

I know, but its deceptive as I am REALLY short. Put a 12 stone taller person on him and it looks like serious pony squashing! In fact my OH got on him, he is 5'10 and 10 1/2 stone and he looked HUGE. I felt sorry for the pony which is ridiculous. Its all a matter of perception, but yes, hardy types should carry that weight.
OP should go and try and see. The ponies owner on the ground will soon see if the OP is too big. (and would hopefully tactfully say so!)

We had a 14.1 gypsy cob whch my daughter and i shared. i am 5'7 and weigh about 11 stone. he carred me fine. i felt abit tall but certainly not too heavy. We then got a 14.1 finely built pony for my daughter to compete on. i had alttle trot on her but felt far too big and heavy on her. i think you need to think long and hard about whether the pony will be suitable but to me she looks alittle too lightweight

I'm taller than you but at 9.5 stone - I'd still think the OP pony was unsuitable for me - especially to buy!!

Why not just go for something that you know will carry your weight?? I'd never even sit on something that I thought might have to tell me that it was struggling(although not sure how they'd do that anyway??).

I think, if you really want a pony of that type, see if you get down to your target weight OR if you want something now, look at things that are a bit chunkier/bigger.

Come one people stop being so stuck up your own arses, 14.2 would carry a well schooled lady at 12st.

This is starting to worry me a bit. My pony is 14.1hh and 400 kgs, I am 10 1/2 stone. Elderly pony with a bit of arthritis. Am I being cruel?

for easy work, yes you would be fine, but for competing i'm not sure- she doesnt look to have much bone or muscle tone for that matter. My OH is 12.5stone and I wouldn't want him to compete a horse that size/build but I would let him hack her out etc

Elderly ponies tell you if they are starting to struggle, so play it by ear.
Op, I think that pony might be a little bit small for you to buy. If there are any physical issues lurking then you could aggravate them over time.
Having said that, I think anyone saying a pony of that size can't carry 9.5 or 10.5 st is very nice but slightly mad. As long as the pony is healthy and not a diddly show pony (that one isn't) they should be fine. If a pony suits the person and they are happy together then it doesn't matter if the person's legs are a bit long. Keep the stirrups at the usual length and make sure the pony is schooled well off the leg (so that you don't get tempted to claw your legs up to give an aid).
I've got a dainty 14.1 hh 17 year old welsh x arab being ridden by a 10st lady who is 5'8" tall. They are absolutely fine.
If we had to worry about our height then adults would never ride ponies, Icelandic horses etc.

Here we go - OP get all the tack, and yourself in your riding gear, THEN weigh yourself. That is what the pony will have to carry, not 12.5 stone.

I weigh 7 stone 7 in the bathroom, starkers. In riding gear, plus hat and boots over eight. With a complete saddle and numnah and pad, close to 9 and a half. I know, my saddle is heavy...

You should be asking is 14 stone too heavy for this pony?

I cant understand why any adult would want to buy a pony unless they were very tiny. I would feel silly with my legs trailing the ground!

Well that's a whole different debate - and I award you the prize for the most ridiculous narrow minded comment thus far this evening! (maybe I'm slightly biased at 5'8", aged 26 with a 13.2hh!) :D :D :D

I use to own (Until he died age 28 ) a 13.2hh New Forester and competed the Golden Horse Shoe (100 miles over Exmoor over 2 days) several times.

He use to carry, with ease 12st and did the GHS for the last time at the age of 22 yrs

He regularly raced (Endurance) over the distance of 60 miles beating many an Arab.

I also have a 14hh pure bred Arab mare who again has done the GHS.

I think that with the combination of Arab, Connie and TB you will be fine and don't worry about riding a pony there are many people out there that are over horsed.

What a ridiculous bigoted thing to say, i am well and truly an adult but have never owned a 'horse' in my life, why would i want to ride something that big? The biggest pony i owned was 14.3 on tiptoe................. and my legs have never trailed to the ground either even on a 12.2 - LOL

What's bigoted about it? She can't understand why anyone would want to ride a little orse, you can't understand why anyone would want to ride a big un?

I think u can be curvy but ride quietly and gently. I know some thin people that would do more damage by being stiff and bouncing around. She'll let you know if she's not happy! Good luck.;)

you took the words right off my keyboard lol

I never said it was cruel, or made any judgement about those who ride little ponies whatsoever. Its a personal choice. I love ponies, they are very cute! but i cant imagine going wow i have to have that, i think i would get some odd looks if i showed up at the yard on a mini-horsey! lol

Haha, well my pony definitely in't the same size as the ponies I was riding when I was 10 - he is stupidly wide and chunky and very strong - in no way suitable for a 10 year old! :D

And that's not coming from someone who wont ride horses - have ridden and loved some huge horses and was fittening point to pointers this time last year. I just love the Fell pony breed, I think they are beautiful, versatile and have masses of character. But saying that, if I didn't have him I'd want a nice IDxTB. :D

Sorry, I'm veering a bit off topic.

i weigh 12.5 stone with body protector riding gear and hat on, her saddle is a fabricy/synthetic one that weighs next to nothing. (i have used it to back a youngster) with out hat bady protector i weigh 11.10 stone.

well if i didnt feel depressed about being a fatty i sure do now
