To go to a show this weekend, just so I can use their lovely indoor school (it’s a jumping show, so maybe just do one little class)?

I haven’t ridden for a week now because our school is frozen, boo! And I really, really want to ride.

Obviously all depends on how much snow we get with taking the horse box out, but seriously considering it if it’s safe.

So?

Do it!! ha ha!!

Sounds like a great plan to me

and cheaper than hiring the school!!

Go for it, I've been to try horses in this way, so i havnt had to pay for school hire, esp if the horse isnt as advertised!!!!!!! Plus you get to see it in a competiton environment.

Dont think its wrong atall. Go for it.! Would just take care not to overdo it but as you say, just do a bit. If your horse has been able to go in field anyway to keep the old muscles moving then its not as if its been in a stable 24/7. Just watch out for that nasty white stuff and check the forecast, you wouldnt want to get stuck there and not be able to get home. Enjoy if you go.

I taught my old horse how to jump by doing this - I didn't want to be paying for school hire, and couldn't find anyone suitable for lessons, and so went to the local SJ that they had on every other week and we just kept trying until she got the hang of it

She got to be pretty good in the end

Thanks, yes Bodey has still been going out for 9 hours a day. I wouldn’t go unless they definitely said it wasn’t going to snow, I know it’s going to be cold but can cope with that. Think Bodey will be bouncy but that’s fun.

As a show organiser this weekend, we were concerned that we wouldn't get many entries, but maybe we will if everybody thinks like you! I'd be more than happy to take your money even if you did just want to ride, you could ride straight past every jump if you wanted

Now all we need is for the car park to be ice free and the outdoor warm up school to defrost.

I wouldn't risk travelling my horses anywhere in these conditions unless an absolutey life or death situation. Simply not worth the risk just for one ride surely?

A local place charges £10 if you don't make any entries to a class, because it had too many people turning up to school for free in the warm-up arena.

No problem if you enter one class, even if your horse can't jump, just show it the arena with the jumps in - maybe if they are nice and you ask the arena party nicely, they'll even put some poles down for you?

Go and enjoy yourself if you can - I can't even walk up the road never mine take a horsebox out!

I think we may be doing that as well at the weekend, hunting is bound to be canceled and our school and fields are all to frozen/snowy!
