Hi, I have just started a new online business and at the moment I am just taking payments for products through paypal. To have credit cards etc is very expensive and until I get going paypal is the safest option.
Would this put you off if you went on to but something??
I am getting people going to my site but not many sales as yet.
Many thanks in advance. :)

Definitely not, it would encourage me to buy as you have buyer protection with PAYPAL and as a buyer doesn't cost anything extra, good luck with your business, pm me your website i'd like to have a gander if you don't mind ;)

Not at all, I use paypal all the time when buying horsey stuff.

Could you pm me a link to the website, I'd like a look too, not that I am after anything, I'm just nosey lol

NOT having paypal puts me off buying, so many times I have put stuff in an on-line basket then not placed the order because there was no Paypal, it saved me loads of money as it's usually stuff I don't really need :o :D

I guess for some people it would be a problem purely because they may not have paypal, although I used to work for an online company that took payments by card over the phone (and on the website too actually) and somehow that went through PayPal! Think it was a Virtual terminal or something like that, it may be worth looking into!

I would prefer it. I would be able to use my 'ebay' money for things that I've been banking after without having the hassle of transferring funds

Yes, it really does put me off. I only use paypal if I can't get the goods somewhere else.
I once bought goods online with paypal. Goods didn't arrive, paypal investigated, agreed I'd been scammed and refunded only a third of the price I'd paid through them. Apparently, if they only refund the amount left in the sellers account, which may not be the full amount. I lost £70.

I have better protection with using a credit card.

Thanks everyone. :D I do intend to have a merchant bank when my business makes a bit more profit but the charges are silly and I need to make sure it's worth doing first!

You'll find most people don't mind using Paypal, even if they don't have an account they can still use their cards. It's handy too that you can use their own free html codes to add drop down menus and shopping carts to your site. I have them on my saddlery website and get sales through it no problem, good luck with your site.

I too prefer Paypal
- have used the buyer protection several times and don't like inputting my debit/credit card details onto the internet. I know security certificates are fairly trustworthy, but all it takes is one dodgy site.

No I'd rather use paypal, same as using your debit card really, don't see the problem

What are you selling ? Perhaps whoever has been looking hasn't found anything suitable, are you allowed to post the link ?

I wouldn't use it, sorry :(

I use a debit or credit card - happy with the cover from either of them if anything goes wrong. I can never get to grips with PP; when I did have an issue (admittedly some years ago now) with PP, it was a nightmare to sort out.

Isn't there some way now of using PP, but by using a CC or debit card? I'm sure I've seen it.... *thinks*... blast, sorry, can't remember it. I'll come back if it springs to mind.

As a private buyer I wouldn't be put off by paypal as I have an account. DH wouldn't buy though because he accidentally locked his paypal account and can't get them to unlock it because they are being a nuisence. As a result of them being a pain over that for DH's website we use google checkout, have a look at it. It is the same principle but it is provided by Google and is pretty easy to use and the charges are a bit cheaper. You can also tie it in with analytics and stuff.....

With my corporate credit card I can't use Paypal because they have an overall limit (about £900 off the top of my head) after which you have to register bank details with them and my employer is not prepared to do this. As we have all reached the limit now, we can't buy from websites that only offer Paypal as a means of payment, which is annoying as some of the stuff people want is quite specialist and obscure so probably being offered by businesses such as yours.

Problem with Paypal is that its not a bank. If the seller closes their account, the buyer doesn't get their money back as there's nothing in the account to reimburse them with. Banks on the other hand are subject to much stricter regulations and will guarantee a full refund.
