HI

I am just about to back my youngster over the winter - but am going to stuggle to keep up with riding him in the summer due to work.

The plan is to back him and start gentle riding for a month or so in December. Turn away again and then back into work March time?

I could keep him ticking over with the odd ride or 2 a week until the autumn when my work quietens down. Or do you think people would be interested in sharing a horse once he is back in work in April? Or earlier if they want to help back?

I have a hunch he is going to be fairly straight forward as he is so laid back and has taken to a saddle without a flinch.

There is oodles of off road hacking and an indoor school to ride in.

He is 4 next year and is 15.2/3hh warmbloodxwelsh d. He loves attention and keeping occupied so I really think once he starts working he will be best to keep going.

I hope that makes sense as I feel I have just rambled! :o

I am in the same position as you - and nearly the same horse! lol I have a British WB x Welsh C! lol :) anyway ... I was thinking about doing the same thing, aslong as they are competant of schooling and teaching your horse you will be fine! So you would have to be careful where you found your sharer.. unless you kneew them? Overall I think it would be a great opportunity for someone :) good luck

Horseless jorge, whereabout are you?
I've no idea but wondering about something similar over winter (free share) for my youngster, so will be watching intently x

This is the sort of thing I was looking for, as I haven't got time for a horse full time, due to a young child, but miss owning a horse, but could fit something like this in a few times a week, so I'm sure there's loads of experienced riders in this situation, that would snap your hand off. Have a look on equine adverts as there's quite a few people on there looking for this sort of thing.

Another Welsh x here who would love to find an extra rider! Ours was backed end of March, rode on happily over the next couple of months but due to work hasn't been ridden since the end of June! It's finding someone who's competant enough with a youngster that will probably be the sticking point.

Thank you all! Encouraging that people out there would like to have this sort of arrangement. Agree they need to be an experienced rider that perhaps doesn't have the money to buy/time for a full time horse. Opportunity for small parties when he gets to that stage as there is so much choice in this area.

INDIE4 where are you, we are just outside of Consett, Durham, have 2 horses (not youngsters) could do with more work, we work stupid hours and shifts, neither are novice rides, although one is ride n drive.
Anyone else interested in free horses to ride (subject to suitability)

flirtygerty i'm in south wales. You could try the local uni riding club as some of them are quite good riders, but horseless due to uni
