Would you be a little annoyed if you'd bought a horse and previous owner didnt tell you she had:

Lump on midline girth area. Likely eosinophilic granuloma but can not rule out the possibility of this being a sarcoid.
Mild capped hock.
Mildly raised heart beat, no abnormality deteched, was rechecked the next day with heart rate normal and no abnormality detected.

This was all on a copy of the vets 5 stage vetting certificate previous owner has posted.

?

Did not have my own vetting done as previous owner said she had passed a 5 stage vetting last year plus she was only cheap.

I would be annoyed with myself for being so stupid.

I'd be a little disgruntled with myself for not having had my own vet inspection. At the end of the day a horse can "pass" a vet with any number of problems. It's up to the person commissioning the vet to be clear about what they expect the horse to do. The vet will merely give a realistic opinion on whether the horse is suitable.

At the end of the day you have a new horse and in the past there have been a few vet comments. BUT the bigger question is - how is the horse going for you now? Is the lump actually causing a problem, the heart thing doesn't sound wildly out of control and is the hock causing a problem??

Probably not serious tbh and the horse was cheap. The sarcoid would bother me but if it hasnt grown then it possibly wasnt a sarcoid. Vets have to be careful. Mild capped hock wouldnt matter unless you wanted to show and it was still a problem.

So I take back what I said!

However, I would never rely on a vetting that was done a year previously though. If you take the risk of no vetting then you cant really be annoyed with anyone other than youself if you are not happy.

just to make you feel better i have owned several horses over the years and never had any vetted , if i like it i buy it end of story , maybe im lucky , sorry to hear about your problem, just see how she goes and make decisions about how much to work her or what she can do as you go, im sure she will turn out to be a lovely person and will give you much enjoyment , and save up some cash just incase she does need the vet on occasions good luck .

Has the horse still got the lump?
what about the capped hock ?
and its sounds like the heart problem, isn't?
would you have been aware of these things if the previous owner hadn't sent you and old vetting cert?

i think that whilst i might feel annoyed it would be with myself for not getting my own vetting done TBH..if you specifically asked if horse had any of these issues then she shoud have told you but if she didn't then your fault really....

Yes, horse still has lump. I make sure i use a fleecey girth cover.

I didnt notice the capped hock until i read the cert

so then the capped hock isn't a problem,
and as long as the lump does not get any bigger, and is not causing a problem,
I cant see why your annoyed with an old vet cert when you got the horse cheep, at the end of the day you get what you pay for, and if you didn't have your own vetting done, I cannot see why you are annoyed with previous owner,
they didnt have to send you the old cert.

By the way hows the colt, have you had him gelded yet?

Your choice. Buyer beware and all that.

A friend of mine had a potential horse vetted, before she bought, even though it had passed it's vetting a year and a half ago- and this time it failed. Something to do with the flexion tests, I think? Shows it's always worth it, however sure you are that the horse is fully fit!

you should have spotted the first 2 'issues' yourself on viewing the horse- if you didn't they can't be a problem to you.

the heart thing- is it really irregular? has she been in work for the last year without a problem?

none of the above are enough to be annoyed at the seller... more likely annoyed at younrself for not noticing/ checking.

i do not get horses vetted but you can spot all of the above things yourself

We have never had a horse vetted but have always checked them over ourselves.
Surely the lump in the girth area and the capped hock were obvious to some-one who looked/felt.

I am told that many horses have raised heartbeats intermittently, so certainly wouldn't worry about that.

Gosh, I'd be kicking myself that I trusted the woman in the first place. It is always a case of buyer beware!
