As title?

I did on Thursday.
He is rising 3, and has been blind in his nearside eye since a 2 day old foal.

I don't see it as a problem TBH, as his "missing" eye is the "better" of the 2 to lose IMO.

I outbid the meatman by 5gns to bring him home.

If anyone is interested, i'll post a couple of pics.....?
 
I'd love a pic NP. Not cos of one eye just cos I is nosey!

I worked at a yard that had two horses with only one eye. One had been kicked and the other had a tumour. They both managed absolutely fine and were not even spooky as a result. So I guess yes, if I liked it :)
 
We have a 1 eyed pony on our yard and he doesnt seem to suffer at all, does very well. I myself have a 1 eyed dog and shes fine, they seem to adapt. Her remaining eye has a cateract on it now and her sight is limited now but at 12 (nearly) shes getting a bit old to have it removed and its not a cheap op. She copes well with it.

Well done you for saving your pony, Im sure he will bring you hours of pleasure and as hes only had 1 eye since very young, he will be well used to it.
 
no a one eyed pony or horse wouldn't bother me, just look at that great racing mare who lost an eye when her mum kicked her and she's won loads of races.So lets see photos please
 
very interested to see pics.
i know of a few ponies over the year with only one eye and they adapt very well.

Yes i would there has been more than one racehorse with one eye hasnt stopped them, nice to see a good heart outbidding the meatman ha ha.
 
Yes I would buy a horse with one eye

I have a one eyed Arab Gelding who is an advanced endurance horse.He had an accident before we bought him.

He is great, the only thing is his hearing is extra sensitive and he can hear things well before me.

He jumps too, balancing himself as he approaching the fence.

Never had a problem with him. You would never know he was partially sighted
 
Oo. He is rather tasty actually. How big is he? You can hardly tell in the first pic that there is anything amiss with his eye really. The two I knew had actually had it removed.

What will you do with him? When he is old enough to do anything of course!
 
Wouldn't put me off at all, there was a lovely little pony on the BS circuit last year with one eye who competed quite succesfully and qualifying for various championships.

Actually saying that I might be put off if theres a possibility it couls spread to the other eye but if its doen by an accident I wouldn't worry :)
 
Love him and I'd def have bought, too. He's a really good-looking chap. It's micropthalmia he's got. Friend bred a top SJ who had it. Never stopped him winning.

ETS nice owner, putting him through the sale ring.

i sticked him today jess..his arse end is 14.1 and his wither is 14hh..so he'll make 14.1 easily..

he will be ridden on a slowly over the winter and hopefully will find a nice home then

if not, he'll stay here until he does.

he'd make a very nice driver with his "handicap"
 
His eye was thoroughly looked at by a Vet when he was "under" to be gelded..the Vet confirmed that in her opinion, his blindness was caused by a puncture wound..which then got infected..

love it :) Sounds like something I'd say only when I say it like that people give me funny looks. Usually because I say it at work to a load of non horsey scientists I suspect.

Poor old boy getting something poked in his eye. sounds horrid. Definitely not worth sending him to the meat man over though.
 
what a shame, from the photo he'd have made a very nice working/hunter pony. No doubt you will find a very nice home for him. Just which you were nearer, mind you my OH is glad you aren't.:D:D:D:D:D:D

TBH, is the loss of an eye a conformational fault?

I personally, can't see that it is EB?
 
It would depend on the price tbh. There is always going to be an issue when selling on.

He does look very solid though. With good NF breeding he should be a good sort. Peveril Peterborough....Hmmmm! Yum! Yum!:)

Yes. I have a one-eyed horse who is my pride and joy and I wouldn't change him for the world. Honestly, you forget they only have one eye, even though my boy has had his completely removed! It's quite shocking for those who aren't used to it mind :o
 
Micropthalmia is a congenital fault, an eye injury isn't. Not sure if either counts as conformational, though. It's whether it's desireable/likely to hamper a day's hunting, surely? I thought those were the criteria when judging the confo/suitability element of a WHP?
 
Maybe you should drop him with me NP. My YM is mad keen on newfies. I know nothing about them but she knows all this stuff. He could be my first. I keep thinking I should swap the horses for a nice pony instead. Do you want the dirtiest filthiest TB filly in the world and the grumpiest WBxTB ever known to man in exchange? They both have stinky attitudes, eat a lot, require the vet often and are generally unpleasant to be around.
