I don’t think I will. Sox is only 4 so fingers crossed we have many years together. My biggest concern is me having to give up and sell her....not her passing away. We’re selling our land and stables and I’m moving back to livery soon. Slowly over the years I’ve been down sizing and I haven’t ridden regularly for 4 years so Sox is my last chance I feel. Nothing has ever been the same since I lost Kinzzy my coloured cob of 11 years. I’ve never felt the same about another horse since but have to say Sox is the next best thing. We gel very well. Fingers crossed I feel safe when riding her. That’ll be the deciding factor I’m sure.

No. When my 20 year old goes, I won't get another. I have had horses my whole life and am 57 this year. I have had a no replacement policy for years now as my other horses have passed away. I have them for for life and find the loss quite devastating. I won't put myself through it again.

I have young grandchildren now, the eldest who is 2 is mad keen on our old TB and a shettie at our agistment. It is quite possible as she grows older her parents will go down the pony route so I will happily be involved there.

I'm of the same mind-set (and am the same age!). Always keep them for life and have had to make the PTS decision for the health and welfare of the my two. Although it was necessary and more or less a decision made for me it was still traumatic and heart-renching. I cried for a month for both and can't go through that pain again.

I have a rising 4 year old so (touch wood) I should have him for a few years to come, but if anything did happen to him and I lost him early, I don't think I would get another. For me it's the time and money it currently takes - we have just bought a house that was at the top end of our budget so currently feeling the pinch. I would probably look for a share instead.

Archie is 25+ and retired last April. I bought Charlie in August, he's rising 7. The plan is for Charlie to be my last but that relies on him lasting as long as Archie has. I'm 42 now and OH and I plan to travel a fair bit once we retire so if I get 18 years out of him I'll be ready for a break. After a year or two of travelling I might find I need something to occupy me when I'm home and I might look for a share but I don't think I'd buy another. If, I lost him a lot earlier than expected, I think I'd get another but really don't know. I hated horse shopping and really don't want to do that again.
