I love the horsey sales they do, we have amassed lots of their black buckets and their bandages

i think they are very good quality, and cheap at that - what are your opinions on them? do you buy from Lidl?

Yes I have done. We bought some great travel boots from there (the only ones that ever really fitted our ID mare properly) and got quite a nice saddlecloth from there too. They have some cheap, half decent stuff.

I bought some travel boots from there once and they were great. They were the only pair i ever owned that fitted my horse as they were nice and long but the right width too!

Haven't tried anything else
 
its very good, they have buckets, bandages, boots, summer sheets, numnahs, horse treats, hoof oil - basically the basics

I bought some fantastic bandages ones with half foam and half bandage. Great price and have lasted well. I also buy my niece grooming kits when they have them as they seem really good quality. The rugs are normall strange size on our local lidl so have never bought those, but if I could find my horses size I would def buy and try
 
I bought a fleece rug from them a few years ago, used it quite a few times and it was only a tenner. I had to use an elastic surcingle with it tho as the canvas one was tiny and wouldnt fit round my horses girth. Haven't seen them since tho. Oh and I bought two of the saddlecloths which were great but thin and two schooling whips which were good value. Might get some more.
 
I just believe in a good old fashioned saddlery shop. If theres a problem mine will always sort it out, exchange if wrong size, etc. Also i believe supermarkets should stick to selling food and toilet rolls. Saddleries dont sell washing powder and bread. People will soon moan if their local saddlery closes down because they have to go further for feed, first aid stuff etc. Saddleries are a good source of advice for novice owners and so are invaluable to many people.
 
I have a pair of travel boots from Lidl that i've had them for at least 3 years now and they still look brand new. They're the best travek boots i've ever had, not what you'd expect. Have a fleece from them to but it's a random size and they only seem to do the one size and not so keen on the fastenings as they're are not surcingles, just one strap. Also have stable bandages from them that i've had a couple of years and again they still look brand new, even though they're well used.
As for not supporting local tack shops, we have none! We have one that basically do horse clothes, like Joules and Barbour etc. If I had a tack shop to support i would but as i don't i don't see the problem in buying from Lidl. Although don't agree with the level Tesco have taken it to, i.e riding hats!
 
I've bought from Lidl:

4 Buckets, the half fleece bandages, a summer sheet (most of their rug sizes equate to 6'3"), 2 padded, fully adjustable headcollars for £1.99 each, 2 leadropes with panic clips & a saddle cloth for my sister's horse.

Everything has been of good quality, especially the headcollars.

They don't stock it all the time though, just have promotions every so often, maybe once or twice a year.
 
If it's the German Lidl-shops you're talking about, I haven't bought from them and have no intention of doing it.

I don't like the attitude they had when they established themselves here, don't like that they've more or less only hired younger people (around 20 years of age, probably getting their first job and being willing to sign anything to get the job), then didn't give them full time job but still wrote things in the contract so it was difficult for the employee to have/get a second job and a few other things related to customer service.

Hmmm, teddyt, that's not strickly true, Countrywide and other farm type stores sell horsey stuff, cow stuff, all animal stuff, washing powder, toilet paper and wine (all you could ever need really

The schooling whips are only about £7 and are very good.

The hoof oil is wonderful as a conditioner because it contains laurel oil (doesn't make the feet shiny for turnout purposes) and comes in a handy tub with the brush stuck inside the lid.

The bandages are good value and quality, and the coolers are excellent. I wouldn't buy the nasty nylon breeches, and I certainly wouldn't buy the riding hats though.

Lidl did the best and cheapest cooling gel when the local one to me did the horsey week- £3 a pot compared to £20+ for some cool gels. Also a set of eskadron rip off tendon and fetlocks for £15 which are still going strong. They only do horse deals every so often- Im hardly taking away from my tack shops!
 
I was talking about proper saddlery shops. The ones that specialise in horse stuff and nothing else. The ones that if youre running late you can ring and they'll hold on for ten minutes for you. If you need something they havnt got they will order it for you, etc, etc They usually have something called customer service as well. Maybe im old fashioned?
 
I have and would again. I have got their headcollers which I keep as spares are they aren't quite big enough for my giant headed horses. Their leadropes are good as they have the quick release panic clips and are quite long. Their saddlecloths with the half fleece is really nice and their fleece bandages are good to. I also have their funny shaped black buckets.
