a personalised number plate in the name of your horse of a life time?

a lady at my work has a step daughter with the same name as my horse! they bought her a number plate at auction and she didn't want it (goodness knows why)! so she's offered it to me for what they paid for it!

now I have had my mare 15 yrs and she is now 31, so don't know how much longer she'll be around, so is this a good way of celebrating her life?

If its what you want, is relevant to you and means something do it. I found the perfect plate for a horsebox, then mulled it over for weeks before I bought it (2k). So glad I did and get lots of comments about it. I figured if I needed to I could always sell it in the future and would probably make a profit on it.

I've never thought about it but now Ive seen it. I want it. It's 1500 and I get a bonus at the end of March. The owner will keep hold of it if I didn't take it straight away :)

Why not if it isn't a stupidly outrageous price, I know UK personalised plates can make silly money.

Would I personally? No, but then I am a tightwad.
Woooooooooooo, just seen the price, holy moly, absolutely not, I can buy an entire years hay with that.

No, even if I was a billionaire. Personalised numberplates just aren't my thing so I understand why the step daughter doesn't want it. However if you do and you are happy with the price, then you should buy it.

If I could have afforded it def I would no question personal plates go up in value so you have nothing to lose

I have 3 - yes 3 personal plates on my vehicles

If you want to, then do it. We have personalised plates for our cars - mine is my name and birthday (bought for my 18th), my husbands is our surname (a wedding present) and we have a special one on retention for when we buy our 'just for fun' car.

Yes go for it! I would like one myself but £1500 is far too much - would rather spend it on my boy :D

Sorry to hijack thread but what do you think of personalised stable or in my case field shelter horse name plates?

Each to his own and its your money to spend but I would never have a private plate - I'd rather spend it on a newer second hand car. I've never understood why so many women drivers have them with their name on. In these dodgy days it immediately points to a woman driver who has a bit of money and therefore might be worth following home and robbing. The thief can call them by name as though they know them and in the time it takes to think do I know you, you've been jumped.

I agree :) If you really want it, chances are this will be your only opportunity. Personally It wouldn't appeal to me though, seems like a lot of money for something quite trivial ;)

If you would enjoy having it and your bonus money isn't needed for anything else then why not? We have four private plates, one on the lorry, one on our car and one on each of the business vans. Our surname is three letters so each contains those letters and they were easy to come by costing a couple of hundred pounds each which at the time of each purchase was affordable. Sometimes in life it's nice to treat yourself and if you can afford it and decide to buy it don't feel guilty - life's too short!

Definitely buy it.

Private plates with very specific number combinations that mean something to you are unique, and once someone else has got it, you have missed your chance.

A few years ago I had the opportunity to by 'DAR8S' (see my forum name) for £1500. At the time we had just bought a new house so I didn't have the cash sloshing around. I missed my chance of not only getting a plate that means something to me and I would have kept, but I believe it then went on to sell for £14,000!

Here in NZ we have serious personalised number plates, you can apply and get your desired plate so long as it conforms to regulations - go for it have something special of your horse. You don't always have to have it on a vehicle either, it could be mounted on the wall along with photos.

My friends have PON1EZ as their number plate on their horse truck and PETZ1 on their work vehicle (they own a pet shop) Its fun to have.

if you can afford it go for it, my partner and I both have personalised plates, if I could get one that related to my horse of a lifetime I absolutely would and it would mean more to me than the plate I have now.

Not something I am interested in, and extra hassle when changing the vehicle, was a pain faffing around when I bought my last vehicle, it came with a private plate that wasn't included in the sale, I ended up running around with a non taxed vehicle for a couple of days unbeknown to me, kept having to check online DVLA if it was taxed or not while waiting for the paperwork to come through from the garage who failed to understand a simple 3 requests to PHONE ME when paperwork comes through so I can fetch it, then had to change the plates, but if you want it it's your money, why not, nice thing to remind you of your horse :-)

They are an investment too and only go up in value,

Mine has gone up from £ 350 - £ 700

Yeh thats what the lady at work said to me!! they have a few as her husband has his own scrap yard, so they have something along those lines on their scrap lorry, then their names on their cars!!

I had one on my old car 10 years ago, which was my bday and my initials but when I sold that car, I hadn't found another one, so ended up letting it go!! I've regretted it ever since! but I think this one would be even nicer coz I would never forget my little old lady :)

Will see how much I get from my bonus, once the tax man has eaten away at it!!

I have a plate on my car and its my horses name. I love it :) I got it for my 30th from my OH as he knows my horse means the absolute world to me. Makes us very easy to find at shows too!

Personalised plates of any sort aren't really my thing so I wouldn't buy one personally but there are a few in my area that are similar to my old boy's name and when I see them they make me smile. E13 ONY is my favourite, but there's also an EBO 1 and an EBO 2 (same family).

Blimey I got a radio with cassette player for my 18th. Still got it.
