I have just purchased a Thermalux rug from Ebay with matching tail guard, head collar, bandages etc. Was an absolute bargain - only thing is, although stated as brand new condition - they have arrived today and are in perfect condition but it all stinks of cigarette smoke. As you have probably guessed I am a non smoker, and the worst type as I used to smoke. I find the smell really offensive. I know I could just wash the rug and everything else but would you be happy if you bought something supposedly brand new and it turned up smelling............?? I'm not sure if to say something or not - would it be rude?

It IS technically brand new, it has just been in a smoking environment. Yes, it would have been nice for the seller to state it, but I don't think they have done anything wrong. If it was a bargin just stick it straight in the wash and forget it.

I would complain, but then I moan about everything

wouldnt bother me, would just chuck it in the wash and be done with it- especially as it was most likely alot cheaper than a shop. Plus if they stated non smoking home and it smelt then yes I would complain!

I probably would email them and tell them the issue and that they should state on further listings that it is from a smoking home. Unless it states it is from a non-smoking home I probably wouldn't complain as they are in the condition listed.

It wouldn't bother me as it was a bargain. If i paid alot of money for it then i would probably moan abit. x

Yeah, I'd agree with this. Then if the rug etc is fine apart from that, then I'd just bung it in the wash and be pleased with my bargains

forget the febreeze as can cause an allergic reaction. take it out the bag and throw it over a gate or fence at the yard for the day. the smell will be gone by the end of the day and by the time you want to use it, it will smell of the things in the yard that are familiar to your horse. job done

I wouldn't complain as it was 'as decribed' just with a little extra

With ebay i've begun to assume it could turn up like that unless it says, like many do, "from non smoking/pet free home"

I've just sold a rug on eBay - we sellers are not all like that.

I sell used rugs when my youngsters have grown out of them...but they are always clean and non-smelly.

If you check with Ebay you will find that when it is described as new it says the following:
[ QUOTE ]
Guideline for describing an item's condition as "new"
An item can be listed as new if it's unused, fully functional and has no signs of damage or wear

You have bought [ QUOTE ]
an absolute bargain

[/ QUOTE ] you don't mention any wear or damage yet you want to moan about some smoke smell? when you know that after one wash, or possibly after our horse wearing it a couple of times the smell will go

Why don't you send it all back, have a refund minus your postage & then go to a tack shop & buy it all again without smoke smell at double the price? Will you be happy then?

I'd bung it in the washing machine and be delighted with my good fortune. You do have my sympathy as I too cannot bear the smell of cigarette smoke but a bargain is a bargain and it is easily fixable. Well done on getting a good buy.
