The livery yard where i'm at have just put up 5 cctv cameras around the yard and basically so they can see everywhere from the tellys in their house. It's like they are constantly watching us and what we are doing, even one on the sand school! They say its for security but i would say that its taking things to the extreme. There are only 4 liveries (people) and we all think its just really weird. They have more money than sense. Not much idea about horses so have to put up with a lot. Although i only pay £20 per week for both of my 2 horses including all bedding and haylage so i guess i'll have to put up with it!!!!

Nope not creepy at all, it is a great security measure. Our top yard is under complete CCTV surveillance

IMO that is a bit weird in my opinion one on the entrance would be plenty, i mean are they trying to tell you something about poor security? Are locks etc all in good working order? Although i'm sure it's nothing like that and just a case of to much money.

The gate is always locked, the lane is about half a mile and the house is practically on the yard. They have more money than sense. The yard is very secure.

No not weird.People will still nick from you even if only 4 of you.
Wish all yards I have been on did this would have stooped a lot of the 'in-house' stealing.
Last 2 yards we were on had them.

That's good then, i would imagine they probably want to be extra sure (better safe than sorry!) Just an idea but maybe it's for their insurance cover or something. Atleast now you'll have peace of mind.

Don't think anyone would steal. We are mostly there at the same time. We all get on really well. They have nothing better to do so we think they put it there to watch us! They need all the help they can get!

the yard i sent my horse to for a few weeks training had cctv everyware! i thaught it was great untill i locked myself in my stable then climbed the door to get out and fell flat on my arse lol! i could just imagine him sitting watching and laffing i quickly got in my car and drove home . i still wonder to this day if it was caught on the cctv! would earn him 250pounds on youve been framed ha ha x

my yard could fit all the cameras it liked if they only charged me £20 per week or both my horses!! lol the novelty of lookin at the cameras will soon wear off + then it will be back to normal!

Feeling a little upset?? Lol
1) Paying that amount....I'd be rather pleased the yard had invested in CCTV and security.
2) IT'S NOT the Liveries position to COMPLAIN about any cctv or security systems... it's sure as hell not something that liveries should have knowledge of.... cctv is installed for a purpose... only the YO should have any knowledge of why/where and what for!!!!!
3).....if the unfortunate day comes when you find your horse missing (NO yard is that secure it can't happen...it does and always will!!!)..... will you complain the cctv was watching you...or will you go asking YO if any footage was taken and identified the person(s) taking your treasured horse????

Wonder what the YO's would think if they happen to be on this forum reading the comments????

My friends yard has cctv all over the yard and menage, which you'd be glad of if you fell off and were on your own, electric gates and her own stables have an alarm on each stable and the tack is in metal caging.

There was CCTV at my old yard and it helped out my friend when she fell over when walking down to the fields and broke her ankle... The YO wasn't aware she was even up there until he saw the CCTV by which point she'd been lying there for 15 minutes... could have been a lot longer.

I pay for one and i keep the other for free in exchange for giving the owners daughter a lesson once a week. They do not have a clue about horses, they are just wannabes. They just have a lot of land a gorgeous yard and try to find out information about what to do from us liveries! They are a bit creepy so thats probably why i find it creepy and the others. They would not be on here, i know that for sure. She probably doesn't even know what H&H is! LOL!

Crikey, not creepy at all, but nice to know there is such good security. It is exactly the sort of yard to be raided.
Plus, as somebody always has to say, if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about.

I'd think it's brilliant that at such reasonable livery prices they will still invest in that much security. Mine are at home and I'd love CCTV but can't afford it. Look for pluses, not negatives.

you sound a little bitter and perhaps envious ? It seems to me that they are looking out for their yard, if I were you I would be hugely grateful that there was working CCTV - it certainly would make thieves and those who may wish to do harm to the horses think twice if they think they are being filmed.

If you are so unhappy there and think you are being watched all the time, I suppose you could move. Getting free livery for ONE lesson a week seems quite a good deal for you.

Their property, their prerogative I guess, do they have cameras elsewhere on their property too?

As long as they aren't monitoring the loos I can't see a problem.
For a peppercorn rent like that, even if I didn't like it I'd not worry about it overmuch, huge bonus on the security side of things. Just remember to wave hello every morning.

From stories related on here if some yards had cameras in feedrooms alone it would stop a lot of 'borrowing' of feed.

Charming - so you are taking advantage of their wish to gain knowledge, their good nature and their facilities, and then coming on here to slag them off.

Just remember that they may be taking advice from other people - and a little thought is now running through my mind as to why they may have installed cctv - who may have told them about the wonderful thing that is HHO. Or they may have found it for themselves. Your last comment is laughable from someone who has been a member for less than two weeks.

It's when they put up CCTV on a hidden camera and they don't tell you that you should worry.
We had a spate of feed being taken and the YO put a secret CCTV camera in the feed room and monitored it until he found out who it was. I remember the other liveries being up in arms. As one girl put it "I could've been having a good scratch of my fanny and he'd have been watching me".
Personally, I'm glad our yard has CCTV. It's only on the gates coming in but at least the YO can look back at the tapes and see who has been coming and going.

You'll get used to it. Our yard has them in each stable block, the indoor school and 1 looking up the drive. I'm glad they are there to look for intruders, fires, accidents etc and tbh hardly give them a 2nd thought. I ride very late at night when there is noone else around and would like to think if I fell off then someone might spot me on the cctv rather than being left stranded in the school until morning. Try to think of them as a positive thing rather than than "big brother" spying on you - I'm sure the YO probably has better things to do on an evening than watch the liveries on the cctv anyway. LOL.

Big Brother is watching you lol

actually I think you have a pretty good deal with all that security.

On a serious note let me ask you a few questions....

Have you ever had your tack stolen or (if you own one) a trailer/box taken?
Had your diesel taken?
Have you ever been thrown off in the school and was laid there until somebody found you?

I know it may feel a bit weird feeling like your being watched but I doubt they will be glued to their screens every evening, I'd find it rather boring lol what with all the soaps on at the moment, not unless your a very instesting lot

but at least you have that back up of having something on CCTV should anything go wrong.
