Would you get your horse freeze marked?

I wouldnt. I had one of mine done about 15 years ago (maybe methods have improved?) and it was awful. He went ballistic as it obviously hurt like hell. As a result, the mark is barely noticable in full. I cant read what it is anyway! I wouldnt put another horse through that TBH.

I would microchip. And then put a big sign up somewhere on your hard to say they'd been chipped (to put off robbers).

and once stolen this sign on your yard would help because???
Sorry to hear your horse had a problem, it;s good that we have the choice,

i had mine done 18/19 years ago and had no problem, nor did any of the several others having their youngsters done

I have been involved in the recovery of a number of stolen horses and what I can tell you is that if you are concerned about recovering your horse if it is stolen then get it freezemarked. Micro-chipping is a poor second best as there are several different systems on the market and the scanner of one system will not identify the micro-chip of another one. Freezemarking is visible to anyone and can be read by a member of the public. Practicly every horse that has been stolen but has been freezemarked has been recovered. I also advise frezemarking on the shoulder so that it can be seen even when the horse is under saddle.

Hope this helps you.

I havent because i think it looks horrible..... only personal choice and think that it is a good idea, just cant get past the look of it.... have seen loads where the horse has moved or operator not held the irons on long enough and they are either unreadable or missing completely.

He is microchipped though, and agree with others that although this would be useful in an ownership debate, it wouldnt really help if he was stolen :-(

Anyway, it invloves clipping a patch to place the iron on, therefore a no no as far as merlin is concerned!!!!
