I'd chuck him out on the Peak District hills in a herd and let him get on with it (if I could afford to own said hills and herd which I can't!) 
I'd turn him out without a rug and say 'see you in the Spring' :eek3::lol::devilish:
And I would only with a couple of shetlands, they would soon beat him into submission.
I think it is so down to the horse.I suspect you are right! At the end of the day, he seems happy, I put up with him and he isn't going anywhere. I used to find him hugely frustrating but now we have him in a routine that suits him, I just now find him amusing!! He's the 4th ex-racer I have had - all the others were so easy but were all pants at the day job. I do wonder if the fact he was a decent racer makes a difference.
