I have a bit of a dilemma. I have a youngster who came back today after her initial training to ride. Delighted to say she is doing well so far. This youngster is a particularly difficult one to fit a saddle. My saddles has none that fit and non of mine fit. The trainer has one that he has owned for years but never used as it fits nothing. Until my youngster came along! It is an old but genuine western. It is not bad but showing its age a bit. It is comfy and fits me and my girl.
Rather than keep it for many more years the trainer has reluctantly offered it to me as he would rather it be used and he knows I am struggling.
Sorry this is long. Now for the question.
He is asking more than my saddler thinks it is worth BUT it fits.
Do I buy it knowing it fits otherwise I will struggle and probably pay more, or do I wait it out to find better value?

I said buy this one because it fits, BUT only if you a) want a western saddle and b) the price isn't going to break your bank. If you can afford it and you want a western saddle, i'd buy it. :)

Factor into the equation "what is the time lost looking for another saddle worth".With my horse ,I messed aboutr for ages looking for a saddle, waited on various saddlers ,agravated my poor horses back with a poorly fitting saddle, Then had one made (took a month ,thank you TDS saddlery in Alton ,an unashamed plug ,and well earned by them)You at least have found a saddle ,here and now that fits, put a price on that!

I'd buy it so you won't have to have a break in her training but I would get another saddler out as I'm not a fan of western saddles myself.

I said buy it. I have a hard to fit mare so I know how that is. I think you have to add the fact that it fits into the actual value because realistically, that makes it more valuable to you.

I actually ended up with 7 different saddles because every time I found one that fit, I couldn't keep from buying it! I'd looked for so long, I think I have a psychological disorder from it now.

I would make a reasonable offer, a saddler will always say its not worth asking price because he wants you to buy one from him.
My saddler tried for ages to get a stock saddle for sasha, I mean 7 months, then another Polocrosse player retired her horse and I tried the saddle on sasha and it fitted well, so I bought it.
It has made a great difference to the way she goes and my sons confidence as western and stock saddles are more secure in keeping you in the saddle.

saddler is unable to find anything that fits so is not after a sale, and is a relative too! fitting well now is very important, and I have decided to buy it, but will offer a lower rice for . thanks for your comments.

Depends what make it is and how much he's asking for the saddle. There are good western saddles and there are most definitely terrible ones where no amount of money would come out of my wallet to have.
