Go to a show (ridden) that had NO warmup ring?

I ask because I was planning on going to a show next Sunday that's been advertised as being affiliated and is a qualifier for both Royal London and SWPA. However I found out today that there is NOWHERE to warm up... they said that there is somewhere that you can 'run them up and down' but I want to work in in canter as well. Their reason for no warmup is because 'it's only showing', but you wouldn't go into a dressage test without warming up! If it were just in-hand then I wouldn't worry... I'm in two minds about going now...

Personally, no I wouldn’t. How are you meant to get them to their best without having a warm-up? I have never been to a show that hasn’t at least had a grass paddock to warm up on, madness IMO.

Warming up isn't just about making the horse show at his best, it's also a good way to avoid injury! Even if I'm hacking or schooling at home, I have a set warm up (and cool down) regime! So no, probably I would NOT go to a show with zero warm up area.

Not a chance - after travelling they need to warm up to avoid injury (as above poster has said). Far too much risk of muscle/tendon strain.

That's madness, never know a show without a warm up ring

As it is a qualifier I wouldn't right the show of altogether yet, instead I would try and find out how big the show ground is and how busy it gets, it might be that they have plenty of room that would allow you to warm up properly without actually needing a 'warm up' ring, if not then I agree with the others, it's not work risking injury!

I was there today 3B - There's an outdoor school which the centre tells me they HAVEN'T hired (so we won't be allowed to use it). It's the first time a show's been held at this place I believe, definately the first one I've been to. The rules say that cantering outside of the rings is forbidden, and the only other option would be to take her through their tracks through their woods - which potentially would be muddy and then she'd get dirty! If I do go then I will have to take her down to the end of her drive and back in walk and trot a few times, which is far from ideal, and if I go I will be complaining - and I'm sure a lot of others will be! I don't want to risk injury to G, she's far too precious to me.

Crazy!! Hopefully if enough people complain they will change things for the future, seems stupid if there is a school they could hire!

They'll be other qualifying shows and as you say G is far to special to risk injuring because of some numpty show organisers.

Is this where we were today?
If so, no way would I canter in the woods, I walked lace around there to chill her out after my test and most of them are concrete underneath the mud.
Seems a bit silly that they haven't hired the outdoor.

I wouldnt go personally but if you really want to then is it close enough that you could do most of your warm up at home then pop on and just do some walk and trot at the venue before going in the ring?

I usually warm up my mare at home then hack 30mins to my local venue. I dont do too much in the warm up arena cuz my mare gets a bit wound up especially if the warm up is busy.

Utterly ridiculous, I would be suprised at SWPA approving this if they were aware of this. I suspect from what you've said that I know where the show is, I would like more event there, it would be good to get it back on the calendar.
There are lots of shows on Sunday I think, we are at Rugby so sadly can't go to any.

Well that's what I'm thinking... the other ring is novelty classes so could be tiny tots etc. I'm tempted to go and see what it's like and then complain and ask for entry money back (I've pre-entered!).

I went a did a dressage test once where there was no warm up, you had to warm up in the lorry park. Worked quite well for me as it was blowing a hooley and there were horses in the fields around charging about, noone else would warm up in there but I did and he behaved!! So I was dead chuffed with that day even when we came last! And the organiser liked my horse as well because all these people were complaining and she's like, "well he did it" :D

No I wouldn't, I help run some tiny local shows and even we have a warm up!! I find the whole idea of no warm up totally unacceptable.....
