Wow! Some unusual colours there! Not all to my taste (give me a solid bright bay anyday of the week), but I loved looking at them.
I found this explanation:
'The Akhal-Teke typically has a marvelous metallic glow to his coat. This is caused by the structure of the hair; the opaque core is reduced in size and in some areas may be absent altogether. The transparent part of the hair (the medulla) takes up this space, and acts like a light-pipe, bending light through one side of the hair and refracting it out the other side, often with a golden cast.'
That's interesting and I'm very envious of you having seen one in the flesh. I've only ever seen them in books, the first one when I was a child and I remember thinking then that it couldn't be real it was so beautiful.
I'd say it's more impressive in real life than in a photo. They really look like their coats are made of metal. I was transfixed. He was also a stallion, and popping a five foot fence in a tiny arena.
" chocolate flaxen" can come live with me since no ones claimed him yet![]()
If you want to post a link of lovely horse colours why would you not pick one that was at least vaguely accurate?

well why? I honestly can't fathom how anyone could read that link and think it was great I should post that for people to see and discuss
Misinformation is never a good thing.
I would love to be able to as it would certainly make life more pleasant
More pleasant, indeed.
Not genentically no, of course that is only part of colour generation and not all 'fading' is colour bleaching from sunlight if that makes sense and they do have different tones. As a tip if looking at other horses those that are difficult to distinguish from red or black based, a little like that rocky mountain I posted people look at coronet as a tell tale spot.
I am just having a Frank painted so that instead of living in my garden he can live in my living roomand a couple of days ago I realised I should mention to the artist that his tail is completely different to his mane/any other hair on him, it looks ginger on top but is a mix of pure white/grey/black hairs underneath. It looks really silly plaited!
