1) 12 yr old pony has had laminitis for many years and has a rotated pedal bone. Pony is very lame in walk. You can't afford the operation vets have suggested could help. You can't afford/disagree with long term use of bute. Pony is stabled 24/7 with occasional use of outdoor pen, similar size to stable.

Wwyd?

I have said that imo pony should be pts, but owner considers this cruelty (see 2!). Would RSPCA be interested in this sort of case?

2) you know someone is keeping paralysed (broken neck) and broken winged pigeons alive in shoe boxes, feeding them with a syringe of food. The house roof is also covered in pigeons. Given that pigeons are considered vermin, do you think any authorities be interested in this?

1) Nothing.....a pony can't have laminitis for years and is being seen by a vet anyway

2) nothing.....a pigeon wouldn't survive with a broken neck anyway

Pony should definitely be PTS, as should the injured pigeons! Are they wild or racing ones?

Sounds like she is a bit indenial about the condition of her animals and doesn't realise that keeping them alive is the cruelest thing she could do. I'm not sure if the authorities/RSPCA would be interested but I think it is a situation that needs dealing with sensitively.

They're wild pigeons that he's 'rescued'...

Horse is well looked after, fed, clean etc but can not put weight on the foreleg.

The owner (male, if that makes a difference) is not particularly easy to talk to, so suggestions on how to approach it gratefully received.

pigeons are amazing animals for repairing themselves. Ive had ones with broken wings and or legs and with rest they usually heal up ok. Are you sure some have broken necks? They do get a disease which can make them look like they have a broken neck.
Do they get released when they are well?

I've only seen it on Skype, but it's been paralysed for at least a year... So don't think it will repair :(
They tend to stay in the house once recovered, they get fed too well to want to leave.

Sounds like a load of bull to to me - kept a paralysed pigeon alive for a year? Man's a flipping miracle worker.

Agree with above. If this person exists fruitcake.

Pony should be put to sleep. Said by a person who lost one of her ponies to laminitis. Ditto the pigeons.

No harm in contacting your local WHW welfare officer or similar, they could go round and offer advice with regards to the pony. RSPCA for the pigeons? I know they get a lot of flack over their dealings wih srge
