Took 3 from work XC schooling this morning, 2 youngsters and another one. Took both the babies round first, me on the Rich Rebel mare, who is very quirky bless her. She didn't have a clue at first but soon got the idea, and after starting off very stuffy, she really opened up and started jumping from a long stride rather than getting up too close, so was really pleased with her. The other mare was foot perfect as we knew she would be

Then took the older one round, and he was jumping beautifully for me, then not sure what happened, but he got a perfect stride to the fence, went to take off then changed his mind, did a complete somersault over the fence with me underneath him, I managed to roll away on landing and miss getting flattened, leaving him upside down on the ground. Got him up and checked him over, not a scratch on him thank goodness. Trotted up sound and seemed none the worse for it. Got back on as my boss wanted him to do that fence again, to make sure he was OK with it. He felt fine, jumped a few smaller ones then jumped it again perfectly. Left it at that for him.

Never had a horse somersault over on me before, and amazed I managed to get away with a few bruises, definitely saw my life flash before my eyes

Will put pictures up at some point

OMG, are you both ok? How worrying. I wonder why he changed his mind after meeting it at a perfect stride. Poor things.

I'd keep an eye on him over the next few days and get you checked over by a doc as soon as. Better to just have the once over.

Hope you're both ok. Glad he was still jumping ok aftwards. Big hugs x

Thank god you're ok, thats my worst nightmare! Very strange that the horse put down on a good stride, I suppose sometimes they make mistakes too

I think thats was all it was, a mistake, he was completely genuine over everything else, and even going over that fence again afterwards

Holy crap E, you are not having a good time of it are you

Glad you are OK, I dread to think what could have been - take care of yourself honey x

I have been told I have a death wish, but it was a fairly simple fence, on an experienced horse, shouldnt really have been an issue. I did think for a minute - this is it... but instinct jumped in and got away with a couple of bruises and a very sore bum

Hope you are OK, you must be the most accident prone person I know of!

Hopefully he will never repeat that mistake again.

Tell me about it! Hopefully I am getting all my accidents out of the way before me and J start the season

Oh E I am sometimes frightened to open your posts!!!

One brave girl. Glad you are both ok, take care of yourself xx

sounds like a rotational fall to me and quick thinking on your part to roll out of way, they all make mistakes as we do, he obviously doubted himself for a millisec n as was perfect stride u sat nice and quietly is more important how you cope with these opppsiiiis that counts(they happen to me alot too)(had a similar crash)!! Think you have had your 'bad luck in 3' on a multiple scale!!!

Crikey - thank goodness you are both ok. Who knows what horses see that we don't, could be that something caught his eye in the distance or an odd shadow or something?

Good ponio to pop stright over it again though

holy sh*t. are you ok?! i dont think id get on a horse ever again after a somersault, especially after all the deaths from them lately

My god! Well done for managing to roll away in time. It's great that you were able to get back on straight away and jump him though, hopefully that will prevent any issues next time you take him out

Oh Christ. Hoe you are both OK?

Please never ever ride with me as I have the same tendancies with accidents!

Just out of curiosity!
Did you have a BP on?
Doubt I would of been able to roll away with one on? Never know if they would hinder you more in that situ? If you did have one on "Well done"! & what make is it!

Same thing happened to me last year at tweseldown - can remember the horse being just a few inches away from where I landed, so thinking how lucky I was!!

You could mull over what may have been, but I personally decided to try and erase it from my memory and not think about the 'what ifs'!!!

Just out of interest did the horse have overreach boots on? It is a classic thing that happens with them.

Bl00dy hell MH, I think you are an extremely lucky girl and not only that, I bet you weren't covered in cotton wool and bubble wrap were you?

Seriously though, I think you need to slow down a bit, you've had an awful lot of scrapes just recently, it would be horrendously awful if that somersault had landed on you.

PLEASE PLEASE be a bit more careful.

Hope you're not too stiff and sore tomorrow.xx
