Could someone please recommend me some good boots that:

Are waterproof at least to the ankle

Are warm

Won't get sucked off in the mud

Will last more than a few weeks

It's not vital that I can ride in them, but would be an advantage.

After getting fed up with freezing cold feet in wellies, I bought some Harry Hall mucker boots in November - those ones with the fur lining and the suede uppers. Lovely. The lining lasted about a month, then the rubber part split after two months. End of those.

At the beginning of January I bought some of those long boots with the fur inner sock, rubber foot and webbing up the leg. They lasted three weeks before the inner sock disintegrated and the webbing split up the back.

The problem is, I work with horses as well as having my own, so I'm in these boots from dawn til dusk, seven days a week, just about.

I've been recommended the Aigle Parcours ISO wellies (the ones with the neoprene in them). Has anyone had any experience with these? I don't want to go and spend £100 on a pair of wellies for them to give up after another three weeks!

Or can anyone recommend a boot at a similar price that will last?

Thanks!

(Chocolate cake for anyone who's got this far ....)

I like muck boots. Derwent has a good ridged sole so excellent for trudging round in and they keep me warm and dry. However, the soles do wear thin after not very long, I think these boots generally last me about 6 months (so a winter really) and then the sole has gone smooth so they aren't any good in mud any more. I've never ridden in them, always thought them too clumpy. I buy the Muck Boot riding ones, Tyne I think they are called. They are OK, but made from a different compound of rubber which tends to split after not too long from ammonia fumes, so not great for mucking out in. Both made from rubber so easy to hose off to keep the worst out of your car...

I too tend to live in them all day every day like you. They have held up longer than yours.
About those Aigle boots, I have heard very good things about them, a friend bought a pair and she is still very pleased with them. I might try some of those next.

I had a pair of the Tay Muckboots, and they lasted me a good 5/6 years of everyday wear in every weather. They then started to get a small leak, so got a pair of the Derwents now. :)

They keep my feet super cosy. Even down in the -20s we had, my feet were still nice and warm. Can't recommend them enough. I've now converted alot of people I speak to, and alot of my mums shooting friends, including alot of Gamekeepers and farmers. :D

I have got Mark Todd Tall Cook winter boots, and could highly reccomend. Like you I seem to go through boots like theres no tomorrow, usually wearing them kinda 8/10 hours a day. These are till going from October! Very impressed with them, an they were only £60 from Country Smiths. You can also hose them off and ride in them :)

I can reccommend the Derwent or Avon muck boot co wellies, they do a mid calf lenght Derwent which might suit you

Yes I can!!

Woof wear long boots are AMAZING! I have used these all winter and cannot fault them. They are waterproof (up to the ankle), very comfortable, fleece inlined - and I can wear just one pair of socks in below freezing and my feet stay nice and toasty :)

My horses field is VERY muddy and the boots never departed from my feet! Easy to get on and off, to clean etc. Really recommend them.

Now just find the best price :)

I find most things last a season, no more. However, my Toggi Canyon boots have nearly made it through two winters now. I'm in them all day Fri/Sat/Sun (mud and all), and use them mornings/evenings the other days. I ride in them too. I don't use them at all in the summer though, and only muck out one stable so not sure about constant ammonia exposure.

Ariat winter boots - they are fantatsic! I have had mine for just over 3 years, nearly 4 winters. Will probably need replacing by the Spring. I don't work with horses but on average wear them 3 or 4 nights a week, and live in them at weekends/during school holidays. Really comfy and warm and easy to wash mud off. The foot part is completely waterproof and so is the outside of the leg part - inside part is a bit like a really thick chap but is partly waterproof - I hose my boots down and scrub them whilst wearing them and the water has never gone all the way through. Only problem is they have stopped making them! I was gutted when I found out, although there are still a few places online with a few pairs left. Their newer version is the Ariat Grasmere boot - alot more expensive (mine were £100) but they are similar and as I said mine have lasted for years. I wanted something I could ride in so that I didn't have to keep chnaging boots in the winter - foot part is leather and sturdy but not too bulky as I didn't want a really stiff boot for schooling in.
These aren't my exact boots but similar:
