I'm thinking out loud I suppose, but would apperciate advice or oppinions. Currently I have both my horses on DIY livery at a big yard with a large sand school, nice open stables, secure tack room, turn out in a large herd usually 24hour in the summer with turnout in a 'trashed' field for the winter, downsides are the cost £31.50 a horse (going up 10% at the end of the month and every 6 months thereafter) plus £3.50 a week to keep my trailer there. Plus we have to buy the YO's big bales of hay which vary in quality to say the least, or buy small haylege bales in a £5 a pop, he will not allow large deliveries from other sources. Anyhow all this was bearable and outweighed by the good options plus my horses have been happy.
Then the weather came and my horses were in for 3 weeks solid, some were allowed out during the day but the YO made this decision on a daily basis at around 10am when I'd been at work for 2 hours! I feel uncomforatble asking others to turn out for me as my young horse can be unpredictable on the ground, and by the end of it all I felt punished for having a job!! Also some new people have come to the yard with an army of kids and its utter chaos unitil about 7pm silly things seem to be happening regullary altho so far none of my property or horses have been directly affected.
Anyway there is the potential to move to the yard where my instructor keeps her horse, turnout there is allot more consistant, her horses have been in there stables for 2 days since last august, altho they don't have 24hour turnout in the summer, you can order what you like forage wise so could get the bigger cheaper bales of haylege, there is a large indoor mirrored school, its slightly cheaper, £30 a week a horse hacking is the same as its five minutes down the same road, my horses would be together but in a separate paddock as there only my trainers horses as the other liveries so its super quiet. Only things holding me back are enclosed small stables, same size as now but don't have the bars between boxes and the fact that I won't be able to have lessons with my instructor on the premises because of insurance, but could hire a school nearby. I'm very tempted ....
