So, some of you may have seen my posts wondering about whether I should move to a yard or not. We had the high class comp yard with 7 weeks in during Winter and then Mrs (Roy) Cropper who offered full livery for £65 a week but wanted my very good doer lad to go out alone in a 15 acre field for a half day all year :(

Well I would like to report that I have found the perfect yard. 5 minutes from home, he can be turned out with a pony, people to ride with, lovely school with lights, huge stable, lovely people, 5 horses in total, hay is £1.50 cheaper and shavings are £2 cheaper, owner on site, can get onto bridleway that runs to the side of the yard, lots of grass but can restrict, owner will turn out for me during the week.

WOOOO HOOOOO.

Now I just have to tell current YO - I don't want to. I love my yard but have to leave for one or two reasons.

Any advice to make breaking the news go as smoothly as possible?

Thanks for all of the advice on the other yards, this one is so perfect I didn't need any this time!

Pleased you've found something :)

Is this one closer to home than your current one? You can always cite that as your reason for leaving and if you give your YO reasonable notice and pay up in full, I'm sure she'll be fine.

Don't burn your bridges, you never know if you may need to go back at some point.

congratulations ! If you can I would be honest (to a point) with the YO as she may not be aware of the issues on the yard. Get it over and done with and tell her then you can start packing and looking forward to your new yard.

As Quirky says, one of the best reasons to give, that cannot possibly cause offence or hard feelings is that you have found a yard nearer to you. Just give your notice, in writing too, pay your last month or whatever, and you can leave whenever you want.

You actually do not have to justify your reasons for leaving at all, but it is plain old good manners to try not to cause hurt feelings or animosity, even if you actually do feel like sticking two fingers up on your way out.

Good Luck with your new yard.

Thanks Guys! Hard thing is there really is nothing to stick my fingers up at. Some niggles and a few things that I don't like but I have learnt a lot at this yard and it is such a small group, we have all got on really well.

YO isn't a monster but she has had some tough times lately and I just feel like I will be adding to it :(. If it was a more formal situation with a bigger yard for example then I don't think I would be worried at all.

Going to do it tomorrow. Almost did it today but well and truly chickened out :(
