... if you are anything like mine, thank you so much. YOs get a lot of stick, but there are some real superstars out there.

I (and other liveries) can't get to the yard because of the snow and she is turning out and bringing the horses in, mucking them out, feeding them... she even called me today to tell me not to come as the roads nearby are unsafe.

I absolutely trust the YO and her staff to look after my horse - the yard is immaculately kept, horses' individual needs are met and we can have as much straw and hay/haylage as we like, with no extra surcharge when the horses are kept in. The livery probably is a little (and I do mean a little) more expensive than elsewhere, but the peace of mind is worth every penny.

So... who else appreciates their YOs? Any others going above and beyond in the current weather that you'd like to 'out'? :D :D

As a YO I am so fed up with the bashing we all get on HHO it is lovely to see this thread, and I hope you get some nice replies from people who appreciate the good ones :) Oh, and I'll be doing 13 horses all by myself over the break as my help is going home for christmas and all but one of the liveries will be away :D

I love my YO! Although we probably have differing opinions on whether to turn out or not (ie I want to all the time - she thinks they might melt in the rain!), she has been amazing since we've been there. Is constantly going way beyond the call of duty and I absolutley trust her with my horse.
She spots the first signs of him being not quite right - which no one else has done before and treats him like her own.
As long as you respect her and dont take the mickey she will go the extra mile for you every time.
Now I just need to think a xmas thank you..any ideas?!

I love my YO and YM and I do appreciate them. They fix fences, stables, taps, they provide straw and haylage, they have even helped me with servicing my trailer and they have the wisdom of Solomon to keep some kind of order in a group of nearly 35 horsey women. Truly, they are gods among men.

But, if I could request one small thing from them it would be to ask for them to make a safe path to the fields so that the horses could safely get to turn out. With all the handy dandy machinery and shed full of grit is it that hard? Is it an insurance thing?

Two horses have had colic from being in too much apparantly, and two have fallen on the ice whilst going to turn out so either way we're damned. For the last 2 days we've chosen for ours to stay in because we feel we're better able to mitigate against risk of colic than of falling on ice, but it would be so lovely if they could safely go out for at least a few hours.

My YO is an absolute superstar and I don't know what I'd do without her looking after my horse in this weather!

If the horses are stuck in due to the weather, she mucks them all out twice a day, fills endless haynets and water buckets, puts everything on the walker twice a day and still manages to have a smile on her face by the end of the day. If there is something wrong with your horse, she has usually noticed it before you have. The horses all adore her, and for my grumpy old man to like someone means they must be good! :D

All of the livery horses are treated like they are her own and her horses never get "special" treatment. If hers get something then so do yours. The full livery horses even get a Christmas dinner, along with her own horses, with all of the veg peelings!

Our YO is brilliant.
We've been able to get to the yard fine so far this year but she texts us if the roads are bad to warn us and no doubt if they were really bad she would hay and feed for us. :D

I often think people complain about YO because it's an easier option than take responsibility for themselves and their horses.

Our YO is fabulous. We are able to get to the yard twice a day still but if we couldn't she would be there to feed, hay and water the horses without any hesitation. We are very lucky and really appreciate being there.

Our YO is a superstar, she looks after our 2 exactly the same way she looks after her own. I don't know what I would do without her. She will always go the extra mile and is always willing to give advice and practical help.

Well I keep my horses at home and take in one livery so I am my YO/YM but this is such a lovely thread! It's really nice to hear stories about nice yard owners instead of evil/pervy/weird ones :) I have told my livery not to come either because I don't feel it's worth the risk for her, particularly when I am here to look after her horse.

My YO is wonderful and supportive and in this weather helps out as much as she can. Nothing is too much trouble but she doesn't get involved unless you ask her, and how she manages to keep the peace at such a big yard is beyond me.

Not just with my new girl but the old boys when I lost them she was very supportive and full of advice! I wouldn't go anywhere else - infact I am not making the sensible living choice of moving in with my OH and us both being able to save to buy somewhere because it would be too far from my yard!

my YO is lovely. He would no problem hay and water my horse if i was stuck... and another girl would do my full livery.

Wouldnt want to move yards tbh, fab yard and owner :)

Over 200 views and only about 10 people appreciating their YOs?! There must be more of us out there... surely good livery yards can't be in a minority?

Somebody mentioned a present for their YO - I would like to get mine something to say thankyou, any ideas? Suggestions from YOs very much appreciated!

It's lovely to see YO's getting some praise for a change. It isn't an easy job and sometimes a thankless task;)

As for present ideas, something nice to pamper themselves really,, some nice bubblebath or a really good handcream for those sore, sandpaper hands. A nice hot choc or wine, something to relax with after a day in the cold/wet.

If you really want to spoil them I love my Sealskinz waterproof riding gloves - have kept my hands toasty over the last few weeks:).

Nativity ponies - only £10 per horse for Xmas and New Year's Day - are you going soft ;) - I know someone who was charged that 10 years ago !!!

It is nice to see so many people praising ther YO/YMs - any ideas for presents for them ???

Sadly this is what I have come to expect from this forum - if this was a let's slag off the YO thread you would have had pages of posts. Not so many people on here wanting to say thanks YO, you do a great job, here's a nice bottle of wine for you to enjoy (after you have done the horses on Christmas Day of course):rolleyes:

I would like to say a big thank you to my liveries because they have been a lovely bunch (although I do admit to hand picking them :o):)

I love my YO :D She's awesome, geniunely couldnt cope without her in this bad weather, she gives me lifts in her land rover from the bottom of the lane upwards etc, it's just the small things that count, like her texting me letting me know my straw has come etc.

Genuinely love my yard, and YO :D

I adore my YO. Couldn't ask for a better one IMO. Really appreciate all the little 'priceless' things she does for my horse, and what a total star she is. Can't thank her enough.

Very nice of you to start this thread! I had 7 horses to do when my liveries didnt make it with that first load of snow we had, got it done though, and got a torn ligament in me knee for payment! It was the dragging of hay through 2 foot of snow that did it....!

Couldn't leave the poor lil devils without though....:D

Somebody mentioned a present for their YO - I would like to get mine something to say thankyou, any ideas? Suggestions from YOs very much appreciated!

I got mine a lovely bath set as I thought she appreciate something to unwind with after long cold days at the yard, and a box of those mixed Ferrero Rocher (sp) for her to eat while in said bath defrosting! :)

Haven't commented because I am the YO, but it is good to see people appreciating them and I am pretty sure that there are more good than bad out there.

I have a marvellous bunch of Owners, I genuinely like and enjoy the company of each and everyone of them.

:) One of my Owners gave me a 50lb sack of wild bird seed (the good stuff - not ground corn) and a bird feeder knowing that I am a closet twitcher, and then, when I opened her card she'd also got me a $25 voucher at the local tack store. (I'll probably spend that on extra racks for the tackroom!;))

My YO is amazing. It's a DIY yard, so she lets us get on with it (which is a talent seldom seen where horses are concerned!) and maintains the yard and fields beautifully. You only have to mention the smallest thing, and it is done!
All our lot live out, but she has been checking them, haying and watering tirelessly despite having a full time job herself! We have all been able to get to the yard OK, but I know she would see to them if that wasn't the case.
We are taking her out for a meal this year as she is awesome!

My YOs are wonderful too :)

They keep the water on, build paths so we can still turn out, scrap and grit to stop the snow and if you can't get down will do full livery.

A big thank you to them from me.
