For those of you who don't frequent the SoapBox, my husband of 15 years has just run off with someone 10 years younger than me, so I'm now on my own. Sadly, he was a miserable so & so, & I'm afraid that I'm quite enjoying life without him...except that he was my groom/box driver.

Anyway, today I REALLY wanted to take Trev to Lordsbridge for Trailblazers sj, but I'm terrified of driving our 7.5 ton DAF. I drove to MKEC about 2 years ago, and haven't driven it since. I was dithering & dithering this morning as I couldn't make my mind up what to do, & when it got almost too late to go, I suddenly thought, eff it, grow a pair & get on with it. So I slung Jenny (long suffering travelling companion) & Trev on the lorry & off we went.

The scarey bit is going thru the village as there's cars parked on both sides, & if you're unlucky sometimes there isn't enough room to get the box thru. I was lucky, & we got there without incident.

There was a CR, so we did that, & just had a baby mistake at one jump. Having done all that driving (only 15 miles, but I was super-scared) I thought we might as well do a class. We did the 65 cm, jumped a nice DC & qual'd for the Trailblazers 2nd round. He is so easy to jump...really tries for me & will let me put him where I want him.

Then drove home, & only had a rub of the kerb coming up to the village cos I was scared of going thru again. Someone let me go, so that was fine. I was dreading having to squeeze thru a chicane of parked cars.

So....good points:

I CAN drive the box, so might keep it instead of getting a 3.5 ton.
No airs above the ground in the warm-up.
I CAN manage at shows alone.
It's FUN going to shows alone without Mr Grumpy Pants spoiling it.
Early days, but Trev is shaping up to be quite the little show-jumper.

Only bad point...

There will be no photos or videos ever again cos I can't take them of myself!

Oh gosh Cat, I had absolutely no idea about your OH - what a tool. However, as you have said that you feel better off without him, I won't dwell on that and instead lift my cup of coffee in your direction and shout *HOORAH, good riddance to bad rubbish* :D

Glad you had a successful outing with Trev, the boy is a dude!

Really good for you, now each time you want to go out it will get easier and easier.

Sorry to hear about your ex, you sound really better off without him, life is too short etc etc :)

Well done to Trev he sounds a real star.

Well done today is just the start!! With more confidence you will be soon going to overnight BSJA shows!

WELL DONE YOU!!!!!!

I also hate driving our box, and will make any excuse to avoid it, so I can seehow important this was to you. Its great that you went ahead and hopped in the drivers seat (and had a good day).

Re the photography - I'm sure you will end up meeting more HHOers out and about (now you don't have a grumpy OH to look after) so someone is sure to offer to take a few snaps or a vid eventually.

Well done! Definitely a day worth celebrating, I know all too well the horrors of driving a big unqieldy vehicle when you're not comfortable! Why not get a lesson in it, I presume you're legal etc. by age but a lesson might really help you're confidence in tricky situations?

Sorry to hear about your OH but by sounds of it you are better off without him!!

Congrats on a fab outing, that sounds like a brlliant start to your new time together. XXX

Good for you. I always reckon your desire to do something will over ride your fear of doing it, if you want to do it enough - if that makes sense.

1st trip of many I'm sure.

You are not having a good year are you - I remember your Adrian posts.

Sorry to hear about your OH, though you sound like you will be better off and a stronger person without him.

Please let HHO know when you go out and about next, I love having an excuse to get my camera out and am actually getting quite good now - no more just noses or bums or headless riders!! And I'm sure you'll find others who have friends with cameras at events, it costs nothing anymore to take and email a photo on.

Good luck with the lorry and keep it up Trevor.

Well done, keep your chin up, face those demons and realise just how much fun you can have. Good luck, if ever you're coming over in this direction give me a shout and I'll give you a hand or video for you

Oooohhh Princess, I'd be scared to death to go to a party with you! You'd see that my horse & tack are far from clean, & nothing matches! I was just thinking while walking the dog...I didn't even BRUSH Trev before we left this morning! Took his turnout with neck off, chucked his Thermatex on & off we went. Didn't occur to me to brush him...just picked his feet out & that was that.

The joys of having a bay after a grey...!!

Well done on all counts :D
I am sure a few more outings and you will love your lorry. Just think of the independence it gives you and Trev.
Sorry about the husband! At least you got custody of horses, dog and lorry though :D

Massive well done!!! Keep at it with the lorry, if you take your time and don't let other drivers rush you, I think you will surprise yourself with how soon you will be 100% confident driving it everywhere!

Okay, Lui, you're on! I will next be at MF 2 weeks today for unaff jumping. Not sure when our next dr is.

Forgot to say...we were 3rd today!

Well done to you and Trevor, he sounds like he's coming along really nicely :) Although you could have got a photo of him stood next to the lorry or something, so you're not completely let off for lack of photos :p

Sorry about the OH but I guess somethings are for the best sometimes, hope you're okay though!
