Yearlings coat lacking SHINE!!

He is well in his self although looking abit ribby as hes bum high..he's wormed and up to date..and currently fed Suregrow,yearling cubes,chop,a bit of pasture mix..,garlic....not got a issue with weight he,s doing fine just his coat looks dull, I am very wary about overfeeding him as hes goig to be a big lad and worry about this OCD..(he's 14 months and standing 15'3) but would a cup of oil be the way or a oil based suppliment just a bit :confused: as the suregrow should provide most of what he needs mineral wise..advice/tips please.:D
 
This is a photo of my 17 year old in winter, February this year, with a full winter coat - how shiney is he!!

At that time of year, he had a third of a scoop of pasture cubes, half a scoop of graze-on, quarter a scoop of equilbra, black salt, garlic, and a gulg of vegetable oil! xx :D

ETS: I fed Rox my two year old on the same as the above save he gets mare & youngstock mix in place of Sam's cubes. He has equally a nice coat like Sammi, but with him being a coloured he only shines on his dark patches, hence why I posted a photo of Sam to show off his shine! xx :D

you could give him a mug of oil each day, might make him shinier, but remember the blackberries are out. no horse looks good at blackberry time as they are breaking or changing coats!. and night time temps have dropped slightly.

Hehe never heard the Blackberry thought..I was actually thinking it might be coat change as he is losing coat! but will chuck some oil in as well.
 
I can really recomend just a glug of soya oil in each feed! (no need for a whole cup, more like a serving spoon)

My gelding's coat looks fab since I added this to his diet and there is an elderly gelding on our yard who has made a mirraculous turnaround condition (weight, coat and general wellbeing) wise since being put on soya flakes a few weeks ago.
 
Just a quick question - why are you feeding suregrow, yearling cubes and pasture mix?! If you want to help avoid OCD aim for slow steady growth e.g. dont feed foods with high sugar and starch levels to avoid growth spurts. Most mixes and yearling cubes tend to be high in sugars and starches...suregrow is an excellent low sugar/starch product that should be giving all your horse everything he needs...

Anyway....linseed (feedmark do an excellent linseen supplement and v cheap) i've fed both of my boys this and they GLEAM! Not a quick fix but you will certainly see the results within about 3 weeksish - well i did anyway :)
