I won't watch it - even if I wanted to I probably wouldn't be able to.
I don't have a YT account, but have you lot commented that it should be removed?
well, I watched it, and I learned from it (vid I saw stopped just after he got up though, didn't dwell.) Mary did nothing wrong imho. They just strayed off their line (and which of us hasn't had that happen?) It was good to see how well they were going, how brilliantly they'd coped with every single thing up till that point. I felt better after watching it than I did before, strangely.
I also watched it. It extremely awful what happened and a real loss. But lets not have the usual arguements about a video coming out (as always seems to happen in these situations) - it is only natural for most people to see HOW these things happen. And I guarantee a heap of you lot thinking you're being really moral by claiming you havent watched it have done so! And you should not make other people feel bad if they choose to do so and admit to it!
Its very very sad and quite ironic than such an amazing horse at the highest level can cruise round badminton etc. and then loose his life at what was meant to be a "fun" event.
it showed how cavvy went off his line, and jumped right over the widest part, when it was already a long distance for him.
a tragic accident, nothing to do with EE, in my oppinion.
as for the video--very incencitive, particularly so soon,
but its human nature to want to know what happened....
and it wasnt horibbly grafic...
I watched it too, though again, like Kerilli, the version I saw stopped straight after he and Mary got up, no dwelling. Oddly, I felt a little better having seen it.
It's human nature, and not only that, but it's a wake up call for all of us, on just how dangerous these sports can be, and how accidents can happen to the best of them, with tragic consequences.
Watched the video myself on YT very sad!!!...I have to agree with Magic, in that there is some irony....
In relation to the video: Yes it can be seen on one side to be wrong for it to be uploaded for the world to watch, But on the other hand..can if be said if CAC hadn't have fallen the video would still have been taken, and uploaded? the mere fact that the fall was captured whilst videoing is by chance...the video I watched stopped after the fall, the phone was put down. Seems to be a part of modern day life, video blogs.
As a whole the fact the video exists, merely extends the pain for those who discover it and rewatch this tragic moment. In general some people will view this video in different lights, which is their right, but also an opinion. There is always two sides of an argument. I notice on comments of this video theire is outrage and complaints also about the course...as well as comments in connection to taking the wrong line. An example of how people who see two sides of the same incident.
I am not taking sides in posting this, just pointing out that although some may feel that the video should not be displayed, and uploaded in bad taste...others may view the video as simply an event report in video form of the tradegy.
There is another video RIP CAC which is a compilation of pictures with coldplay music playing, very sad video....some of this lovely horse's best moments. It must have been a hard time for the owners as well as Mary and connected team as they all had been through good times with this horse
I admit to watching the video - I wanted to see what went wrong and can now honestly defend mary and say she made the same mistake any of us eventers could. However the video I watched didnt stop filming for a while afterwards, and right now I am in floods of tears after hearing him whinny.
I wasn't at EE so can't judge how the competition was run. However just watching Marys round until that tragic tragic and heartbreaking accident she was going well and Cavvy was loving every second of it.
I just watched it, as I did want to know the 'facts'.... I'm now in tears.
I saw one where I couldn't hear him whinny but I just feel all that comotion at teh end of his life is not the kind you'd want for any horse... He must have really wondered what the f*ck was going on, and why?
So sorry for him, and Mary. She's just the best rider I've ever seen...
I watched the version that stopped just after the fall and am glad I did. From where I was sitting on Sunday I didn't actually see that he went to the right of the fence and I do feel better for seeing it again.
Interesting viewing. Poor boy- a very easy mistake to make and a less bold horse would have said no thankyou and probably turned it into more like a rotational fall but he had the heart to try.
I have watched it because I wanted to know what happened. Very upsetting. It is very frightening to see how easily it happened. He was jumping so beautifully leading up to this and until that last split second everything looked so good. Such a beautiful brave boy and, as ever, fantastically ridden by Mary. What a loss! He will always be remembered.
I guess it depends in a person's reason to watch it. If it's to learn from the riding, line etc it's valid. The ghouls will hopefully be disappointed and just see a horse fall over.
I can still see the whole thing in my mind's eye but I had a very good view of him jumping to the right and (I thought at the time, don't particularly want to see it again to confirm or not) catching his stifle as he did so. Lenamore jumped it the same way, same place 3 times and got away with it, it's just horribly sad that CAC didn't make it.
Another who's seen it and although sad, it's nice to actually know what happened, rather than reading differing versions on here. I'll also take from it that Cavvy seemed to be loving absolutely ever minute, ears pricked etc.
I also watched it as i wanted to know the facts rather than hear say and i wanted to see he was enjoying himself before it all happened.
And to be honest i'm sure the person/people who posted the video weren't thinking malicious thoughts or wanting to upset people they just were wanting the truth to be known (thats what it made me think anyway, obviously could be wrong) either way he was an amazing horse and we can all agree on that
I watched it and learnt form it too.
It gave me a clear picture of what happend and he just took a flyer causing him to fall.
Very sad though and I felt awful when he came up to the corners.
I haven't watched it, but I did hear via someone else their opinion of what happened (and they were involved so not a spectator)
The horse appeared to want to run out of the second element, then changed his mind and tried to jump it, but by then was at the widest part of the fence, hence the accident.
I think probably lessons will have been learned by the organisers re better constructed things like banks, (Gandolph) and that catering etc was a bit of a disaster.
As a breeder I feel very sorry for whoever bred him, as it wasn't the end they would have wanted for him.
Mary King's old horse is now competing in dressage and having a great life, and no doubt this horse would have had a happy retirement too.
Losing one of your best horses must be part of the game for so many professional riders, remember Lucinda Green, Zara etc, they will hurt horribly as anyone would then they have to pick themselves up and carry on; that's horses for you.
I do agree when you have more than one horse it is a different thing to losing your only one, but when you have high hopes for them and plan on keeping them for all of their lives, it's painful to lose them.
It must be harder still for Mary who had said how excited she was about the concept, and looking forward to the event, but for me watching the scenes of the aftermath of the accident isn't something I wish to do, it feels intrusive although it was a public place... I hope she can dwell on his successes rather than one brief day.
