Yet another delightful rider..... not..... when will this end?

Wow, just wow…. Curiousity took me to CDJ’s website, just to see what she has to say for herself. I’m surprised it’s still up to be honest. It’s not been updated recently but yep, very much there for all to see….including this… - if the copy and paste doesn’t work it’s a quote from Sam Knight (who they?) that says

“CDJ’s riding, which is normally so subtle as to be virtually unnoticeable, is helping to reform dressage and bring it to a state of near perfection”.

Excuse me while I spurt my tea across the room. You’d think, wouldn’t you, that she / her people might have thought to take that down, at least?

No insight into the situation, no self reflection,no remorse...

I think we've lost our social licence. Australia is hardly a bastion of animal welfare, but incidents like this are making the national news
Wow. Totally inappropriate treatment for that poor horse. The photos are only a small part of a good article. Showing an open wire injury to a hindleg with an obviously severed extensor tendon. It's pretty nasty, but easy enough to scroll past.

Haven't read the whole 120 pages but these were the soundbites for me.

Paragraph 41 listing what he was accused of. Very sad reading for the horses involved.

Also paragraph 223 listing the weight given by the panel to each of the witnesses evidence. (Sadly not much, if any, for most of the witnesses)

Paragraph 392 onwards giving the reasoning behind the FEI sanctions awarded.

Overall he stated 'remorse' to lighten the sentence. Probably more like sad he got caught.

The comments on that are interesting!

Just in case the comments get deleted - this is the video they are referring to. I have no proof this is Tamie Smith - this is just from the comments.

I stand by the title of this thread.

The text from her post.....

STATEMENT FROM TAMIE SMITH
Respect for my horses’ health and safety—and my responsibility to them and my team—comes above anything else.
And while I believe people should always be heard, serious concerns need to be directed through proper channels, where they can be reviewed fairly and responsibly.
Especially when the safety of my horses and my team are concerned, I recognize I have created high-pressure, high-responsibility environments. Throughout my career, and as the industry has evolved, I too have made it my mission to grow, learn and improve.
I remain committed to listening, and I believe our industry must keep an open mind toward feedback—especially from the grooms and support teams who are the backbone of our sport.
These conversations are never easy, but there is a better way forward; one based on proper reporting, open dialogue, and a shared commitment to improving our sport for both horses and humans.

ETA and now this post on FB from another person.....

WTF is going on there?? Other than the obvious which makes no sense - when did a horse learn from being treated like that? Immediate ban from being allowed with 100 metres of a horse and not allowed to own or care for any sentient being, ever.

And as for the absolute guff they’ve got Chat CBD to knock out, spare me.

Honestly at this point it all needs banning. It leaves you questioning who actually are the good ones, if any

The fact TS put out that statement about how she was working with someone's (AM's) ex horses...

There's no controlling what goes on behind closed doors

What makes it even worse is CDJ is being welcomed back with open arms, and used to advertise events and the FEI are as effective as a chocolate teapot - where is the deterrent, answer there isnt one. The owners are just as accountable, look how CDJ still has good horses, bet its because she gets results.

There's a tonne of vetting that takes place in schools for school staff, and teachers can be banned from teaching by the teaching regulation agency. Other professions class bringing the profession/company into disrepute as gross misconduct

Remember the thread that was started about a certain person, about how the criticism of pros must stop...

It has also been framed by some as female complainers vs male decision makers
How disgusting that this crap is still used as an argument>
What do you mean?
The inherent sexism of "female complainers" (with the implication of hysterical women over reacting) against "male decision makers" ( implication that men know better/are right as they are men).

Or that is how I interpreted your comment, apologies if not what you meant.

It should be a several year ban. Why is it different for dogs than for horses? If someone was filmed beating a dog they would be banned from keeping them for years. I don't understand it. Its condoning the abuse. And if they were stricter and stamped things like this out maybe there wouldn't be such a push for horse sports to be banned from the Olympics. They're shooting themselves in the foot.

It's the (useless) FEI behaving like an ostrich again. As I pointed out above, in paragraph 223 of the FEI panel report, they decided to take minimal (if any) credibility in the 8 witnesses.

He also did what some (often smirking on the way out of court) defendants do - claim 'remorse' to get a lighter sentence.

Perhaps it's time for the FEI disciplinary panel to include at least 2 'lay' members within the sport but more at a grassroots (but knowledgeable) level. They would hopefully be able to input more of the feelings/views of the general public to the discussion.

Why not just educated lay (non-horsey) people (unless that's what you meant)? Grassroots horse people are often wildly accepting of this stuff too. Non-horse people have no skin in the game and you don't, surely, have to be a horse person to realise that flipping horses, beating them, or depriving them of water (etc) are not good things to do.

Of course the public are used to seeing horses actually killed on the racecourse, in public and on the tele so the kids can see it, would it be so acceptable if it was a dogs or cats even, publicly killed, sacrificed in their prime years of life for sport and entertainment, err sorry should have said mainly for money a lot of the time

Not to mention the injuries sustained in falls, and during training for sport, a horse is a heavy thing, crashing on the floor is not good, oh its back on its feet , ah so it's all great then cos it not dead, but I am sure those animals suffer a lot very often probably it takes weeks to put right a heavy fall and the shock to the whole system and thats without any injury subsequently discovered

The depth of human denial and sheer arrogance where horses are concerned is staggering

Our local milk float pony many, many years ago, had a much better and happier life than many sport horses

You know when you look at hunting and the mistakes they make, and you know its on its last hurrah. It feels eerily similar to what we are seeing in horse sports.
It's a level of blinkered entitlement that (dare I say it) seems to come along with having plenty of resources, if I can put it like that 😏
