Yet another delightful rider..... not..... when will this end?

Really glad I decided not to go to the dressage freestyle like I normally do, I don’t think I could stand to see the public hero worship of CDJ like nothing ever happened. For me, it’s fundamentally changed how I view the sport after years of dressage training and spectating. When I do eventually get another horse, it will be Iberian, and classically trained by someone who doesn’t care about winning.

While I agree CDJ did a bad thing and I don’t agree with people now praising her and I know two wrongs don’t make a right but the others in this thread seem to have done far worse IMO… and regarding racehorses, most of them seem to wear grackles so they aren’t gadget free as far as I’m concerned , and I’ve seen lip chains being used in the UK . I now don’t watch racing after seeing so many bad injuries in both flat and jump and although I like dressage it has been spoilt for me ever since the emergence of the flashy, hot, spider legs were marked above the harmonious and correct tests that I liked . Typically CDJ was marked much higher than Carl and I enjoyed his tests so much more …

I don’t mind Charlotte being back, she didn’t get a life ban so it was going to happen.

However she could have been much more honest, shone a light on the endemic poor treatment and training of horses at the top and initiated real change.
Instead of lying and saying it was a one-off event.

That part leaves me cold tbh.
Also the fact the press and commentators either have been told not to mention it or have chosen to pretend she isn’t returning from a ban is highly irritating.

How is welfare meant to get better if we pretend it hasn’t happened?

The cjd test I watched was pretty dull. For about 5 seconds the horse carried itself properly I really did not rate the rest

But I've never enjoyed watching her

This is a much more eloquent way to say what I tried to convey in post 786.

I also agree, I was surprised Carl still owns a share in a horse she rides. There may be complex ownership and contracted wording in the background we aren't privvy to. On the surface, however, it makes it feel like the prior, public 'distancing' was just lip service. I hope not.

I would hope it is a contractual thing.

The thing is people always knew she was a ‘hard rider’. Definitely not in the league Helgestrand but she is disciplined and having watched her in warm up arenas she is driven to win and you get out of her way.
Carl cannot have been naive to her training and teaching methods and has been lucky to come out of this unscathed.

there is no way on earth that he didnt know what she was doing, NO WAY! You cant work that closely with someone and not be aware.

I’ve said it before, but if she were some random woman from a livery yard/or a dealer who had been filmed doing what she did, NOBODY would be happy to see her back out competing. In fact, I think most people would be wanting her banned from being allowed anywhere near horses.

It’s a weird insight into human behaviour, just what people are willing to forgive when the person is a name who everyone has previously backed.
Horse people are a particularly strange bunch.

Indeed. Case in point there is an infamous dealer who was filmed many years ago now with one of her riders on a bucking horse that was repeatedly whipping it until he finally hit the deck, she wasn’t partaking from what I remember but filming and laughing so obviously complicit.

Said dealer has since admitted her behaviour publicly and said she has changed and essentially reinvented herself. However her name is still absolute dirt amongst many whenever its mentioned publicly by those who saw the footage.

I’m not commenting on the rights/wrongs of the dealer, it’s been and gone and irrelevant, but as a direct comparison it’s an interesting insight into human behaviour how one has their reputation marred for life and the other brushed off as a ‘mistake’.

She hasn't changed and we should also keep reminding ourselves that although none of the horses at Spindles farm belonged to her and she was not prosecuted she was involved with the Grays at the time. I know someone who bought a horse from her, it arrived in a shocking condition, very thin and was totally unsafe to ride even for a pro. I've also noticed that the infamous online horse auctions started up again, run by another of her previous partners and featuring some horses that are also on her fb page.

Has she tried taking a year off on maternity

I’ve never had any dealings with her or know anything about her other than what others say online about her and what she posts herself, I don’t really have an opinion either way. I’m just stating the facts I do know as a comparison to the CJD case - that she has said publicly she was wrong (whether she believes that or not) and that she has said she’s changed (whether she has or not).

Iberians are treated notoriously badly if you purchase from the continent...

God knows what will happen when Olympic selections are made

I really can't imagine it

Does England want to be represented by cjd

What will the ioc position be, bearing in mind horse sport is only part of the show

It's gonna be a funny one
