Help me.... please.....:confused::confused::confused:

If *hypothetically* I needed to live between Barnsley and Harrogate, with both commutable for work, by car and somewhere to keep horses nearby...where would I be looking at?

Pref not too urban and/or expensive...

Merci beaucoup :D

Apparently so. I dont do "norf" under normal circumstances, but will be working hard on a Yorkshire accent.

Likewise. The last time I went to York it was spring in Cambridge so I had a skirt and t-shirt on. Got there and had to buy a pair of jeans as it was peeing down and freezing.

Still Harrogate is one of the nicer parts of the north and the scenery is stunning up there.

Not quite my area I'm afraid but Harrogate's expensive and Barnsley's... umm... *puts it politely* rather 'urban'. I'd try for the top side of Leeds, maybe Otley? or head out towards the A1, possibly even the east side of the A1.

Might we see you at a BD venue in the locality at some point?

I would go for the Wetherby area. It's close to the A1 so will help reduce commuting time, plus it is a fairly nice part of Yorkshire.

Thanks :)

Weatherby is closer to Harrogate but too far to south of Barnsley for other job (50 min drive) :( Otley prob same problem (we thought Ilkely first off as MH's grandfather lived there until recently). Bramham aslo 48 mins according to google :(

Any ideas a bit further south - towards Leeds/Wakefield/Huddersfield areas ish?

Not as advanced as looking for a yard yet! Just want to look at poss areas :) But ultimately needs to have decent surface arena, turn out year round, hacking and parking for truck :)

Budget? Are you renting/buying/need space for horses?

I live about 2mins from Brahman, so I would think further south than me. I would suggest aberford which is right next to A1, Woodlesford Is ok, Ledston is smack bang in the middle of the M62, M1, and A1, is a nice village with equestrian centre with indoor arena (nice but getting dated sadly).

There are some nice places in Wakefield, nicer than you'd expect, I was certainly shocked when I first went there, I drive half an hour to see my hairdresser in Wakefield, but he's very camp so it's worth it  :D

you prob need to be looking at Leeds, around temple Newsome. Or wakefield/ castleford if you're looking strictly on geography. Aldham mill is in Barnsley and its a lovely place with two outdoors, one indoor, lots of parking, aqua treadmill, solarium and has good off road riding

I heard they had kicked off the liveries at ledston to create more space for horses in the vet school. Plus the surface has been done in the outdoor and its awfully deep

That outdoor is always horrid at ledston. I was thinking of putting my horse on holiday at that place in barnsley to go on the treadmill, but I've never been. Is it well run and the people nice? :)

It is only an hour between the two? I would go for Hgt :D not that I am biased :)

There are some nice spots in Leeds but it really does depend on what you are looking for. There are some nice suburbs to the east of Leeds, equally if you want a bit more towny there are places like Chapel Allerton.

Plus Wetherby is only 43 mins by Google by the M1 which is what you would do.

Alwoodley is nice, along with eccup, Adel area, but then your commute would be through he centre of Leeds which is not too bad if you travel at the right times :)

Ah, vet practice not vet school! Thought it was odd. Nearest is Nottingham which is quite far away to stable horses at Ledston!

Doh, I also forgot Westfield park ec which is in Barnsley, nice indoor with indoor warm up, and good cafe. Also throstle nest saddlery which is a great shop.

Nothing wrong with Barnsley, cept barnsleyans can't say water properly! :)

You lot are hilarious... think I am going to like Yorkshire :D

Lots of places to look at - will get on the case tomorrow.

Cant say exactly where near Barnsley as one job not confirmed yet ;) but is south of Barnsley (I think, my geography is useless North of Stamford....)

I have asked to work in Harrogate though - once they tell me what I will be doing. Just went in to panic mode today when they said they could send me at anytime....

Westfield is I think now closed rumour is its being turned ino an indoor football place. The other pace you were thinking off was Aldham Mill. Brilliant indoor and pretty good outdoors too lots of BD comps on site.

If you're going to be working in Barnsley you could think about Sheffield too.
To original question a very general response - Anything leeds and north is pricey. South is cheaper but don't forget to look west (Bradford/Huddersfield/Halifax/keighley).
