We have a little coloured cob up for sale, hes a nice chap, very genuine & is 5 this year, as im sure alot of you can appreciate selling anything at all at the moment isnt easy & the biggest problem we have with him he is still quite green, hes mainly hacked out, popped round the clear round at the local hunter trials at the end of last year & has been out hunting twice (only out for around an hour both times). So i can appreciate he wont be suitable for everyone, however this morning i got told he had done too much at his age? I feel like i cant win, im sure the right home is out there for him some where its just waiting for it to come along. Finding a happy medium that suits everyone seems to be a bit of a minefield!
 
I don't think he's done too much at all. He sounds great, if I was looking for something like him, I'd snap him up very quickly! Good luck with finding him a nice new home :)
 
One of my friends said to me last summer "don't take this the wrong way but you do ride her a lot" - talking about a 5 year old warmblood who I was riding 5/6 times a week, mostly mid week sessions of between 20 - 40 minutes either schooling or hacking, with an hour long hack and an hour long lesson at weekends.

As said above everyone has an opinion :rolleyes:

Do you mind me asking why, i am genuinely curious? He didnt do anymore than he would have done out on a hack really, no jumps, no hammering down roads, it was mostly off road with some cantering & lots of hanging about.
 
I think he sounds fab! I wouldn't be at all put off about him being hunted, if it had been more than a couple of times for hours at a time I might be a bit worried but to know that he is sane and sensible enough to have been hunting and not sent home (and even to have been a second time) would say to me both horse and rider came back alive so horse can't be too bad ;-)
 
I agree, he sounds fab, and for goodness sake - of course you havn't done too much with him! Don't forget: a lot of people don't actually do ANYTHING with their horses by the sounds of it.
 
Sounds just about right work wise for a rising 5 yo. I'd say you're about bob on tbh. Some people ride once a week and don't think their horse should ever break a sweat (in deadly earnest I have met these people) so I would just ignore!

What - you let your horses sweat??? Adding this new information to yesterday's post I think I might need to make a call to save BH & Nitty....:D
 
It doesnt sound like he's done to much to me, all horses are individuals and cope with different workloads when growing and learning, the "hunting" sounds no more than an hours variable workout with others, great for a young horse imo.
He sounds like hes been given the oppertunity to get out and about, see things and learn how to deal with stuff away from his own back door, you cant do better than that when bringing on youngsters

well, BH very rarely sweats as he is a cold sort. And Nitty sweats freely just standing around in the field as she is a hot bod. So I don't really know what to make of that? Probably cruel to both of em :D
 
Oh right No fair enough retract my statement. If he had been properly hunted, lots of hard fast work over fences then I would be put off. Yours experience sounds nothing like that and infact would make me more inclined to take a look at him!!
 
Personally for a cob I'm inclined to agree that he may have done a little too much. They are very slow to finish growing - mine grew a hand from when he was 5 til when he was 9!

He does sound lovely though but I would only be hacking with 1/2 short basic schooling sessions on the flat.
 
I don't think he's done too much at all! If you look at what some 4 and -year-old BSJA and BE classes consist of, a low level hunter trial and two one-hour hunts (which isn't that different from a one-hour hack) are nothing! He sounds like a well educated and socialised horse and I can't believe the OP is having trouble sellling him! He actually sounds right up my street :)
