Hey all, were cracking the flatwork with twig my 4yo tb shes been going fantastically well but the past couple of days i have ridden her she has been a bit 'gobby'. Her last insicors (the corner ones) are coming through, you can see the adult ones coming behind the baby ones so its obviosly these that have been bothering her the past couple of days. shes going to her first show (dressage) on saturday so if anyone has any tips on making her feel more comfortable i'd greatly appreciate them!

schooling tonight she went better down the long sides where i could ride her forward but doing loops or serpentines was when she was really struggling, yes a lot of it is being an unbalanced baby but she definately wasnt happy in her mouth and i was really trying to leave her alone up front! Someone has suggested using bonjela and someone else has advised giving her a bute tomorrow night and sat morning. Im not really fussed from a marks in the test point of view - going to a comp and havig a nice day out is the main aim, would just rather she felt a bit more comfortable!

I used bonjela on my tb when he was teething. If you can get it in there

Once the adult teeth had broken the skin it wasn't long before the baby ones fell out and he was back to normal. It might be worth a bute if you think she is in a bit of pain. Joe's baby teeth seemed to get pushed forwards and out so if you can, check on the inside of her lips too and try and get bonjela there if its looking a bit red. Joe didn't seem to be in pain with his, but I guess flapping baby teeth would just feel a bit odd

shes a nightmare trying to get anywhere near her mouth! from what ive seen the adult teeth are growing up behind the baby teeth so im keeping an eye on wether the baby ones will be pushed out or wether i'll need to get the dentist to take them out!

Twig seems to be very senstive and have quite a low pain threshold - she was on three legs when she unfortunately threw a splint a couple of months ago - even the vet said she was a bit of a drama queen!

When george was 4 we never seemed to have much trouble with his teeth, he simply had his wolf teeth out and that was it. Is it normal for them to be gobby one day and not the next? Its difficult knwing wether it is pain or being naughty and hence, difficult to know how to ride through it!

Have you had her teeth checked recently? My 2 yo has a lot going on in his mouth at the moment and he is just walked out in a headcoller but EVERYTHING goes in his mouth.

my 4yo went through exactly the same, had to withdraw from a comp, as he was unhappy in the mouth, and didnt want him to associate riding with teeth pain. i would just withdraw and give him a week or so off, the teeth should come through pretty quickly, and then you can get going again.

If she is that sensitive then I may be inclined to leave her be for a while. Just turn her out and not do the comp. If its her first comp you want her to have a nice time and for both of you to enjoy the experience. She probably wont with a sore mouth. Joe seemed more tolerant with his teeth but I do sympathise....he has had many a time on 3 legs

I should only take a little while for the teeth to come through and the old ones to fall out.

Good luck
