Young woman in Cairo meltdown

Thank you Angelish for understanding what I'm trying to say. I have nothing but praise for all of those trying to help any poor animals in war torn countries - really I do (and donate to them too) but sometimes maybe a little more thought could go into what is posted. After all us well off Westerners aren't used to seeing such poor creatures on a day to day basis :(

God I hate this forum at times, some people are so high and mighty and if you dont do things exactly their way then your being cruel to the horse. They need to get their heads out of the clouds, look at the real picture and grow up.

Massive respect to Ash for what she's doing. Literally risking her own life in the middle of the Cairo conflicts to help these poor animals. The world needs more people like Ash. Well done hun, I admire your courage and thank you for all you are doing for those poor horses! Xxxxx

i don't think its being high and mighty really
some people haven't been to country's like this and seen what the horses (and cattle) look like out there and know that it is normal to look like that in these types of places
i can see how someone would take a quick look at that particular photo and be concerned but that horse is actually one of the lucky ones out there especially compared to some others further down the page

unfortunately those poor horses still have to work hard for there keep out there and are not the spoiled pets that ours are , that combined with poor almost no grassing and that sort of heat means an animal that looks very different to what we are used to seeing
horse lovers as we all are on here that have not been to these county's will be rightly outraged ,a little too quick to judge maybe but not high and mighty

I think that it needs to remembered that every person who reads this thread are potential donators so responses from the charity need to be professional to give these horses the best chance to the care they need.

I dont consider my response to be unprofessional, and please remember we are a tiny grass roots charity. Ash is in Cairo and I fund raise and try and raise profile for TEHP in the evenings (I dont get off the train from London until 7.45pm so doesnt leave much time) and on the weekends. I put a post up asking for support for Ash and her Mum, given that Cairo is a scary war zone at the moment and one person looked at one picture and left a nasty comment. Can I not defend our group without being called unprofessional. Actually, we are not professionals, we dont have marketing qualifications or sales experience, just passion and a desperate longing to try and bring some love and care into the lives of incredibly down trodden horses.

So many lovely people have since come on here and been supportive that I am overwhelmed and showed me that people do care as much as me and Ash do.

thank you again everyone, you know who you are and I am so very grateful for your support as is Ash and her Mum xxxx

I am used to seeing horses in this (and worse) condition. There are many horses like this in my country and a whole bunch of them are now living safely at my farm. Ashleigh is not Egyptian, just as I am not a native of the country I choose to live in, therefore I follow my own rules, and that is to not ride horses in this condition. Ever. Not even to sit on them and certainly not to ride them to the river or in the menage as Lochinvar says Ash does. Why not? Because yes indeed I know better than to, just as we all know better than to. The Egyptian excuse is valid for Egyptians who either don't know better or don't care or don't have an option. There would be no excuse for me to get on one of the emaciated creatures who are now at my farm and if I were to post a picture of me on one of them I would be shocked if even one of you posters said that it was okay.

As for Ash choosing to live in a war torn country, well all credit to her!

Yep, I have just spent a good hour reading some of the posts on the FB page, and although TEHP may have a valid point, about the other charity (I wouldn't know, not being there) they need to steer away from posting publicly about such issues, and just focus on the horses as far as their FB posts are concerned.

All of the people out there working to help these poor horses have my upmost respect - keep up the good work people x

Tankgirl, I agree with you and so does Ash.... the outburst came after days of provocation and Ash is exhausted too, up all night with bags of saline and she has nowhere to live and sleeps in the stables with the horses. We know you have to take the high ground but on this occasion she cracked. it wont happen again. Ash has a tiny orphaned donkey that is on two hour feeds at the moment that was just handed to her because its owner felt the feeds were too time consuming. I'm sure under such circumstances you can see why someone might lose their cool once in a while. :(

Ash and those involved in The Egypt Horse Project deserve a medal in my opinion, I could not do what they do that is for sure.

Ash is a complete inspiration! Thank god for people like that having the guts, the heart and the motivation to do this! Trying to get money together for a donation and clearing out my tack room for bits to send

I can indeed understand, I just hope things get sorted. As someone else said if it was at all possible to make amends they would indeed be a huge force to be reckoned with, and could achieve so much more for the horses of egypt x

Hello again everyone.

Thank you again for your support. Ash has managed to get back online and upload a zillion pictures, some great ones of her working with ESAF a registered equine charity who do regular street clinics and feeds. ESAF have qualified vets and the collaboration will help The Egypt Horse project be accepted by the local community, all good news for the horses.

Ash wanted the ladies that were so concerned about MJ (river horse) to see a recent picture of his bum - not in a up yours raspberry way LOL - but because its getting BIGGER - hurrah ♥

Have a wonderful day and please come and have a look at the latest clinic pictures xxx

thought you might like to see this picture, pretty much sums it up for me, removing a chain halter and fitting a new one............ all fairly humdrum stuff, done over and over and over and over, but making a difference to a horse and its comfort, we cant do much but we do try and do something xxx

I have to go and do my Dads shopping (and cleaning!) for him, but will try and post some pictures of the hand reared baby donkey when I come back

Heartbreaking

I admire Ash for all her hard work and the team out there.
I have offered to send some horsey donations ie headcollars, bits etc.....
:)

I also have headcollars, bits etc I could send - anyone have details where? Its such a sad situation for the horses- went to Cairo ,Luxor, Petra a few yrs ago, and all looked in good condition. And it ll be yrs before the situation is stable enough for tourists to return in enough numbers to keep animals healthy and well fed.

Quickly jumping on to share another pictute, TEHP has a place in the country now, hahaha makes us sound very posh - its not! :)

These are four of our horses and MJ (horse in the river that sparked this debate) is the rump on the right hand side....

♥ ♥ ♥ to you all :)

Lochinvar, I recognised your name and had a look back through previous posts to find we had a small spat about Tasha the dog a year or so back... Hello again :)

They being said, credit where it's due to Ash, and I wish her all the very best with the work she is doing

Oh dear Hells Bells, I am never on here in any glory am I - eeeekkk!!!

I do have a link from Horse & Hound though that shows that I do have a heart and it is all about the horses, not just in other countries either :)

Will be back with pics of the baby donkey later I hope, Ash is rather busy as you can imagine xxx

Haha well you're not alone- and that was one argument, which doesn't mean all other correspondence needs to be in quite such a manner :)

Well done to you for being so passionate about something.

Hi, thank you everyone who has offered to donate items, very sadly unless we have someone travelling over (which as you can imagine has pretty much come to a stop now) we cant get stuff out there. Customs charge for collection and they charge huge amounts of money, all backhanders, and usually charge more than the value of whats being collected. We do have a volunteer going over for the first week in August but her bags are full to the brim already, with sudocream, tuffrock etc, some fluffy nosebands and snaffles :)

thank you so much for the offer, hugely appreciated ♥

I have huge admiration for anyone working for the animals in such difficult conditions, and I've been a follower of TEHP and PFK on facebook for ages. However, I do think, maybe, it would be better to keep any 'differences' between these charities off these pages (although I can understand how stressful it must be, and yes, we all snap from time to time).

I won't criticise the riding of the thin horse, as it is only a photo we have to go on - we don't know if Ash hopped on for the photo, or rode for longer.

Keep up the good work, and hooves crossed for everyone out there!

Thank you again for all your support, which Ash and her Mum are so grateful for.

Bit more good news, the FAB people at Hickstead have donated a pair of tickets for Longines Intl Horse Show and we will raffle them next week and all ticket money will be used to buy medicine for the clinics Ash runs on a regular basis.... wooooo, was so excited when I got the email ♥ ♥ ♥

Perhaps all the people on here who have things that they would like to donate, could instead sell them on ebay or on a table top sale and donate the proceeds if getting donated items into egypt is currently difficult?
