After the stories that came about horses getting caught in leg straps...and some were actually quite funny! Any more? With the best will and care in the world, horses can ALWAYS catch you out.

I will start, nasty bruising and a bad fall after being decked...


By my new horse throwing his feed bucket at me ( the heavy duty rubber ones) Caught me right in the back and sent me flying!
 
The other day, my horse and a friend of his were playing stallions etc. and the other horse (who is over 16 hands) - mine is 14.3 - managed to get his foreleg stuck in the leg strap of my horse's rug. my horse went cantering off with the other horse still attached. The leg strap broke off inside the rug and ripped some of the lining with it...... go some sewing to do later!
 
I was getting my horse ready for a hack and as time was on my side was pimping him up a bit for the occasion. I was stood on my mounting block and combing his mane. Chester head rubbed me and i lost balance. I can remember being suspended mid air with my back on the lead rope. I must have flipped over onto the deck landing straight onto my head. i think i had blacked out but the next thing i remember is the horse standing shaking and a puddle of blood. Luckily it wasn t too bad and was mended with glue! (at a hospital) he doesnt head rub now!!
 
As a teenager, ex flapper racer just bought. Decided to gallop him flat out across local park. Totally out of control and heading for the main road. Life flashed before me - ah yes, turn him and circle him to exhaust him - tugged right rein towards me. horse falls over at flat out gallop with me on him. ouchy hip! Horse limped home with me on him as I couldn't walk. No serious injury done though, amazingly.

Happened to me! But hit me in the shoulder :p Also my silly little mare decided it would be funny to 'kiss' me and i ended up with a black eye :rolleyes:
 
Putting a rug on inside out....And yes. Did it up.

What can I say. I'm a smart one. Though I was very stressed at the time and had my thoughts elsewhere!
 
Years ago I was brushing my youngsters front legs when the hunt when past the bottom of her field, she got excited, kneed me in the face and knocked me flying. My other half took me to hospital as my nose was pouring blood and swollen, I spent most of my time at the hospital trying to convince them that it really was a horse that did it not my boyfriend! They even sent him out so I could talk to them in private. Even when we left (me with a broken nose) they gave me a domestic violence leaflet ! My poor boyfriend was horrified.
 
Not horses but happened at the yard;

The yard cat got stuck on the stable roof so OH stood on a lawn chair (the flimsy plastic kind) trying to get her down. The chair was in front of the closed stable door and YM's dog was in the stable (dunno why daft hound)

So OH is stood precariously on this wobbly chair when the dog decides to jump out of the box over the door. Leaps straight into OH's chest and sort of bounces off. So the dog and OH end up in a heap on the floor. At which point the cat very calmly walks to the other side of the roof and lets itself down!

It was hilarious! The dog looked so confused!
 
Managed a few times when putting rugs on to get whacked in the face by legstrap clips or the fastenings on the cross surcingles. Looking like a panda is not fun... :p

Also now when I end up at the doctors they always presume whatever i've done is horse related, and are incredibly surprised when my injuries aren't! I'm not sure that's a good thing either.:o:D
 
My silly pony spooked at something we walk past every day when I was turning him out. He jumped behind me, then promptly knocked me over (thankfully onto sand as we were walking past the small school) and ran right over the top of me. He actually left a hoof print on my bum!

Once everyone realised I was ok, we all found it very funny!
 
so many little things happened to me as a kid that i even had social services called in for my protection as they thought i was being beaten by my family!

luckily our neighbour was a a nurse and she would always come down and stitch/clean me up before anyone noticed. lol.
 
I have been whacked in the eye with a leg strap, tripped over baling string and walked into my half closed container door.

I also went to rescue my horse who had both front feet over the bottom strand of the electric fence (not on!) Put my foot on it to lower it so he could step back over it. He then caught his foot when he stepped back and took off over the field but managed to launch me about 6 foot in air as he took the fence (I was balancing on) from out under my feet! I landed on my side with a very bruised bum! I did lay there for a bit but as it was 6 o'clock in the morning and there was no one else about I thought I might as well get up.

My first pony did also gallop me under a low branch and I fell off backwards :D
 
I managed to leg both myself and my horse up and we ended up on the ground....I was leading two horses to the field, went through a small gate, halted both of them, went to turn them around and somehow my horse tripped up over one of my legs and we both ended up on the floor had a lovely twisted knee from that but looking back it was funny, would have been funny to watch.
 
My dear horse managed to whack his likit ball which in turn hit me on the temple and knocked me flat onto my back into his bed. Ended up covered in shavings and with a splitting head
 
crikey, where do i start.
team chasing a long time ago, i jumped the fence before the horse (v bad) and took the bridle with me, she galloped over me (days before body protectors) and left a perfect black&blue hoofprint bruise between my shoulder blades. It lasted for months.

leading mare and young foal through a gateway, i thought the foal was going along the other side of the mare so turned my back to deal with the gate, the foal had switched sides and hit me in the back, steamrollered me flat on my face into the mud, it was like being hit by a bus. just very muddy and embarrassing, no injuries and fortunately the foal cleared me (ish) and was fine!

have managed to smack myself hard in the face more than once trying to do up a too-short girth, when my fingers slipped on girth strap.

far too many others to mention probably, but all minor!
 
Gave a customer a black eye once tacking up a horse, flicked the girth over the saddle to drop it down but it was a heavy leather one and flicked rather better than expected, straight into her face. I was mortified.
 
hacked my fairly new pony to the park one her own for the first time. She was on her toes and spooky all the way but i wanted to get there.

Well, got onto the park, I thought it would be lovely to have a canter across the open field (like you see in all the movies!), set off got several paces in and pony does a broncing fit.

I got straight over her head and land flat on my back on the floor, then hearing a THUD next to me. Looked across and there is my bridle lying on the floor.

Get up and pony is now tearing full pelt away from me with nothing but a saddle on!

VERY luckily i had a pack of polos in my pocket and pony was food orientated so a bit of polo waving and shouting and she finally came back.

Needless to say i lead her back home!
 
Not to me, but had just let horse out into field, and was walking up to hay shed and spied horse having a roll in the field on the edge of the hill. Stopped to watch as he got up, immediately leapt up and reared, except went too high and fell back and over, he got up, looked a bit shells shocked then looked around to see if anyone was watching :p

friend on yard managed to give herself a pretty bad black eye & cut eyebrow when she went to empty the wheelbarrow on the muck heap, got too close to the wall and it sprang back! :p
 
Hmm...

Waiting for jumping class to start and was joking that because there were only a few of us we would all get ribbons. Three jumps into my round horse refused and put head down, I slid all the way down her neck over her head and took out the entire double jump with me...

I used to think it was cos I was such a great horseperson that my horse would follow me without a halter or lead on. Until the day I chased him away from the mollasses bucket, he lead me on a merry chase for 15 minutes before I finally caught up with him - only because his head was in the mollasses.

A friend of mine rugged my oldie for me one night and wondered why he was still standing in the same spot an hour later when she was leaving. She had managed to loop the leg strap around the wire fence, horse was stuck!

Wanted to jump on a 16hh TB for a bareback ride and used a plastic chair as a mounting block. Lost balance and ended up sitting on the ground under horses belly.

A friends horse bolted so she did the circle turn ended up in a neighbours property and jumped off suddenly with horse coming to a stop a couple of strides later. There was a fence in the way.

When I first got my oldie I kept him in a stable at night and walked him a couple of blocks down the road to graze my friends paddock by day. One night I jumped on bareback with a halter to ride him home and stopped in at a friends place. She was going for a ride so turned oldie around to join her. Went for a lovely canter until oldie stopped and I didn't. Got back on, turned around to go home, got back to begining of canter track and got bucked off. Twice in 2 minutes, I took him home in shame :eek:
 
Long reining a youngster on a circle in a stubble field - corn stalks about 1 foot high. Went to turn the horse around and he managed to step over a rein. I was wearing shorts and tee shirt at the time (warm autumn day) and no gloves. As he stepped over the rein, he spooked and bolted. I got dragged on my face in the corn field with the cotton reins ripping apart my palms while corn stubble was TWHACK THWACK THWACKing me in the face ever few seconds. I daren't let go cos we were near a very busy road and no fence. It eventually tired out and stopped, but what a mess *I* was in!
 
Ive smacked myself in the face a few times with the girth.... not fun..



My horse put me to shame by jumping OUT the outdoor arena in the first week of moving onto the new yard....taking half the fence with her (still jumped a good 4 foot) fence was around 5 foot high.......she would have cleared it if she hadnt jumped from a standstill....dumbass.
 
I had a friends horse out on a hack and on a single track road, a tractor and trailer was coming towards us. Horse wouldn't go passed it, so I got off to lead him passed it. We got passed with no issues and could see a car coming from behind so jogged him on to get to a layby.

Just before the layby, I turned to check where the car was, turned back to the front and felt something snag on my lip and stinging pain. I'd walked into a flaming thorn branch and it ripped the top of lip. I had to get horse 30minutes home and then deal with all the blood.

I still have a very visible scar. D'oh. Should have checked where I was walking, eh?
 
I only heard this from a friend and didn't witness it, so maybe it's a rural myth... by anyway... my friend was at a show not for from the yard where I am, and this insane horse was jumping and the woman couldn't control it etc. The horse jumped out of the (outdoor) ring and over a parked car!! I think she got eliminated...
 
we used stacked milk crates tied together as a mounting block. I stood too close to the edge of it, block flipped over and i ended up cracking my back off the block and lying underneath Bailey ... thank god he stood still!!

My other 'moment' was like something out of a film!!

Friends pony had gotten into an area we'd roped off as the ground was FULL of rabbit holes. He'd broken the top line of rope but not the bottom when he'd jumped through.

Was stood by rope trying to untie it from fencing post to let him back through when he charges full pelt at the rope, jumps it, catches back leg, pulls rope across the field with him, rope catches the back of my knees and flips me up and over in the air :( very sore after that!!!!
 
I was giving someone a leg up at work, the horse reared up and I somehow went flying across the yard, landed right on my arse in front of everyone :o

Decided to take Ethel for a hack one day, got on her outside the yard and she reared up as soon as I sat in the saddle, whacked me in the face with the back of her head. I let go of the reins and grabbed my nose with both hands whilst Ethel was still up and I slid right down the back of her, landed facing her bum with blood pouring from my nose. I abandoned my hack for that day ;D
 
Husband was doing feet of friends stallion,when someone led an in season mare past. The stallion got rather excited,and before OH could put the hoof down,he was covered in semen!!! Literally happened that fast. Was hilarious,though not sure he saw it that way!
