your equine hero when you were growing up

What a lovely thread. It's bringing back lots of memories. Stroller for me first of all, then Psalm & April Love, not forgetting Tigre & Xanthos. I knew very little about eventing when I was a horsey child, but when I got into it as a (young) teenager it was in the era of Goodwill and Great Ovation.

I was watching a video of milton on youtube last night and it got me thinking of my equine hero's and thought i'd post asking people who was they're equine hero

Normally I am a lurker but couldn't resist posting on this thread.
Another vote for Milton. I had posters, the simply the best video and even got to see him just after he retired when he did a guest appearance at a showjumping event.
A woman in the row in front of us was so excited, the entire show she was telling everyone around her how much she adored Milton but this was her first chance to see him in the flesh. Anyway, the moment Milton came out in to the arena the poor woman was so excited that she fainted and she was seen to by the St. Johns ambulance people. She came round just as Milton left the arena.

Sudden - perhaps Maesfen remembers him? A bit of a local hero for me when I was a child, and he was lovely in his winter woollies, looked every inch the son of a carthorse, which he was, but boy could he jump:D He came from Reading Market, was sold on for £70, then bought back for £700 when the mistake of selling him was realised:o Three members of the same family became Junior Showjumpers of the Year and went on to represent the country internationally, all on this one horse :)

Wow loving this thread, brings back memories of horses that no thought about in ages!!!

Mine:

Ryan's Son, Milton, Dutch Courage, Aldaniti and Sefton

Rowreach - Don't remember Sudden but do recall seeing photos of him. Lovely (old fashioned to us now) stamp of horse. I can remember when I was about 7 or 8 my friend used to try to make our 12.2s kick back like Nizefella (wish I could spell) (poor ponies though I am sure they actually had a lovely life). All the old names coming back like Pitz Palu (again entirely wrong spelling), the D'Inzeos horses.

FreudoBeutlin - I have a video of me show jumping indoors back in the 1980s and as we leave the ring, the next horse in was Murphy Himself.

The first horse I fell in love with was Silent King. He was Horse and Pony magazine's mascot. But I think he died and was replaced with Freddie the pony.

Norbot Koof's Fire, Joe Turis Vital and Novilhero Nick Seltons St James Lesley McNaughts One More Time and of course Eddie Macken and Boomerang.

Riders has to be Joe Turi and Caroline Bradley.

Flanagan and Pat Smythe - I loved that horse and painted his portrait. And Rooster Booster, loved him even more. He used to take his holiday at a stable near me and I saw him often. Devastated when he died. Also Yeats, saw him on tv and he seemed to fill the screen, such presence. Sorry, I was already grown up by the time of the last two! (oops)
