He is a very old man now. I went to visit him a few months ago and he hasnt changed a bit (apart from some grey hairs!) Absolute gentleman and one in a million
My first 'proper' (as in, I could go out and compete him!) pony was a 14hh connemara called Joey. And he was perfect beyond all other types of perfect, true schoolmaster at the age of 9. He'd sort everything out for me, jump perfectly, catch me the other side and win a jump off without going fast enough to scare me
He died very suddenly a year to the day after I got him, of an aneurysm. Very unexpected, and I was devastated. The second photo is him a week before that happened, looking very fit and well.
This is my first pony the day before I bought him, more than 2 years ago now. I'd had him on loan for 9 months before that.
He's my best friend and has a home for life. I know there aren't many ponies that come in at 18.2hh but he's all the ponies I ever dreamed of wrapped into one giant furry body.
a 12hh welsh pony, sway backed and about 30... China Tea was brilliant on a lead rein, and a little terror off it, but my sister and I loved her all the same.
and then Buzzy - a 13hh welsh pony, who died aged 46. Wonderful little monster that he was.
neither will ever be forgotten. miss them both so much!
None of my first ponies are with us sadly. Remember some moments like they were yesterday though;
Top left is my very first pony, Shambles. A 10.2h shetland type, rescued from some travellers (apparently). I was only 18 months old when she came to us. The others are the follow-ons from my humble beginning with ponies. Lost my dun pony Juno (bottom left) last summer.
First one I owned was when I was 10 & she was 2. Still have her now, 21yrs later. Connie x tb, 14.2 & beyond perfect.
Daughter too had ponies from birth, but her first owned one was 4yrs ago when she was 3. Pony now 5, 11.1 mini x. And will never sell her either.
My first pony went on to jump with another girl but I have my first horse still after 17 years and a lifetime of memories she's very old and retired but I love her.
My first pony was Mouse, who was 6 months when I was 10. I still own him but now he's Lizzie 's "first pony" at the ripe old age of 19! The mathematicians should be able to work out how old I am now
I've had/loaned/schooled lots of horses since - Duck, Pebbles, Norman, Thomas, Fly, Wellard, Humbug, Hero, Blackjack and now Jazz and Thunder but Mouse will always be my baby
Lol me too Mrs C. Unfortunately his mane is thinking in his old age but he's supposed to have a very sleek, thin, smooth mane for his breed (considering he's a native) but he gets his huge mane from his dad!! He's also supposed to be pure white but he gets his flea-bitten spots from his granddad
Unfortunately we lost ours about 11 years ago but she is buried in the field and I still go and sit by her grave now and again, she was a very naughty 14hh cross welsh sect D. She was a very confident madame who ruled every other horse with a rod if iron. I have very fond memories of her trying to charge off on the mountain and 'dancing' when I wouldn't let until I knew the path was clear. She was so funny and full of character. She was a one off and I don't think I will ever find another one like her. I still have her daughter who is now 19 years old.
Welsh Section A. A rig as it turned out. I bought him for £5 a week he cost £25. I paid for him by mucking out and a paper round. I had loads of fun with him.We use all ride to the local show, no hats, and no saddles at the time and we all went in the clear round class. No where to have a pee in those days so just nipped into the bushes whilst mates looked out for any old pervs hanging around. Use to stay out all day, getting wet through and hungry.
Great Times.
My beautiful Sam aka Rosedale Mandynka.
Not quite my 1st pony but the 1st one who didn't bite, kick, tank off, and the one who I really bonded with.
Soooooo many good memories but unfortunately this is the only picture, I wish I still had him now!!
Aww great thread! Big Mac is my first pony - the first one I've owned!
The ponies from my childhood, although I never owned or loaned them, will be forever in my heart! Cricket the naughty welsh A, Patches the piebald HAPPA cob, Annie Moo the piebald newforest X, Katie, Blaze, Katie Baby, Brandy Baby, Carousel - they were all wonderful! Sadly they have all passed on, but I have some fantastic memories
I had my first pony when I was 14. He was a 4yr old 13.2 named Bluey. This was the day I brought him home:
Nineteen years later... I don't own him any more but I do visit and he's still the most amazing pony on the planet! Yes, that's us, doing what we've always done (being awesome together!!)
Love this thread, feeling all nostalgic now.
Here's my first pony, this is Holly. I could only have one pony at a time so after she had shown me the ropes for 4 fab years she went on to a family with 4 little girls. I only hope they had as much fun with her as I did.
