found this advert, a 3yr old for 8.9k! is it really worth it, grand prix or not - and great breeding (KWPN :D)

3 YO 15.1HH KWPN X ISH
Gelding, 3 years, 15.2 hands
KWPN X ISH

To make 15.2hh

Bramble was born and reared with us and has been nothing but a pleasure from day 1

He loves humans and can not do enough to please

He was perfect to break in and has just gone from strength to strength

He is compact and powerful - He has a strong back and his hind legs are situated well underneath him

Finds dressage easy and will do very well in this field Is very trainable and puts his heart and soul into his work. With this in mind, plus his great paces, Bramble has the potential to be a competent Prix St George horse

He also shows great skill over a fence - He has the right mind and the ability to be successful in any sphere

Above all, Bramble's biggest asset is that he is a really nice horse. He will really enjoy pleasure rides, hunting and pony club as well as his dressage training

Has always been a pleasure to own - He loves cuddles, loves children and loves life

do you think hes worth it and why. personally i think its alot for a 3y/o

the breeding will push the price up and he is a looker! i would say £7k perhaps.

yes i guess so and i did just look at how much it costs to breed a horse and keep it for 3 years and the keep of the mare - £5k without the time and effort of training. but then it did have stud fees and travelling to stud etc and a stud would probably put the mare back in foal straight away which would mean only keep of the mare for 1 year

Is he the horse in the photos? My immediate reaction is blimey, a 3yr old trained to that level.........!!!

exactly what i thought - although, i thought 'when did they break him in, 6months old!!!!':D

If you look at the photos on the ad and website he is overbent in most,he will need time to correct this.
He looks to have a good jump and is a nice person so someone may pay for him, there are some really nice unspoilt youngsters about at the moment at very sensible money.

I'd be worried that having done that much already, his joints will be messed up, and a few years down the line he's going to be knackered. He's only a baby, and still growing. If you have 9k to throw away, well on you go.

I'm with brandy. If it's 3 why does it appear to be at a show in the picture? Something dodgy goin on i think. Trained to that level or at least showing capabilities??

He might be 3 but in his 4yo year, which would explain the show gear (ie if he is 4 in, say, October, he could be competed as a 4yo since January). I think he looks nice.

Believe it or not people do get their horses and themselves all dolled up for a photo shoot to show you what the horse will look like when is does go out to play.

In racing you'd be asking what was wrong with a 3yo that only cost that much. Considering yearlings get sold for, on average for the good bloodlines, around 100k. Some upwards of 1million.

im definitley getting what you lot are on about - and i guess it is too much for a 3y/o. but its not as if hes jumping to high so will knacker his joints - that is the only thing that would knacker them, isnt it?

Can't see that a horse of this price/calibre is going to get anywhere near pony club/pleasure rides or hunting! How many kids will take their PSG horse to camp ;) I suppose the DC would be happy to have it on teams, though :D

And whether it is jumping big fences, or not, I am very old school in my views about educating young horses, and IMHO I think 3, rising 4, is far, far too young to be working this hard, either physically or mentally.

I agree, I would not look at a horse that had done that much at 3!! For me 3 is just backed a little light hacking and turned away.

absoloutley!!! horses gro until theyre 7 so you shouldnt really be doing anything too hard to that age, let alone 3! its not a racehorse!!!

If he was bigger he would probably be advertised for double that. We looked at a lovely 3yo a while back and because he didn't make the height (15hh) he was within budget but his siblings sold around the 20k mark as 3yos!!

If he's only 3 and judging by the ridden photo, I'd say "too much too soon!" & be concerned that he's got to that stage as a result of "quick fix" training. Nice looking horse though.

The ridden photo above looks to be in show gear - as a 3YO?

My thoughts too! Should not be competing under saddle at that age but then maybe they dressed him up to show how lovely he is.

He is a lovely horse and if you have the money then go for it. As a breeder myself it is really hard to recoup your expenses when you allow a horse to grow up with you, so the price is a realistic one for the seller. I was offered $10,000 for my Clyde x TB foal - I turned it down as I have plans and a rider for her - but there is no way I'd get that for her at the moment - she is now 3yrs old.

Firstly I think it is a bit out of order posting on advert of somelese's horse with the heading 'are you joking'? If I was the owner I would be upset and offened.
Secondly, that is just an asking price, probably plenty of room to budge.
And thirdly, if it is for instance capable of doing top level dressage (I am not saying it is) then that is very cheap. Plenty of unbroken 3 year olds go £20,000. An oldenburg foal I beleive just sold around 200,000 euro mark recently?
I do however agree it looks like it has done a lot for 3 year old, unless it's in its 4th year.

3yr old under saddle?????? ummmmm i question that straight away - sorry i can only think must be muddle of pics but mmmmm love the yummy horse in ridden pic - i would so love that mmmmm

ps lol watch the prices in horse an hound lol - you want a good horse good breeding etc you pay - lol £120K last few weeks so thats peanuts hun :)

sorry, are you joking! why would are you joking offend someone. it wasnt OMG hes soooo overpriced. when i made this thread it was more like 'a 3yo at that level, WOW, but is he really worth that money.' i was surprised that it was 3 YEARS OLD more than the price. you never really see 3 year olds up for that money every day!

120k!!!!! yh i guess i did see a europeans pony for 100k but this 3y/o hasnt got any results to show you that he could be a grand prix horse. his movements are beautiful but this is a proffesional dressage yard selling it. why wouldnt they want him - they do grand prix level? why dont they keep him if hes that good? when they are at grand prix level, they go for the 100k. thats alot more than 9k. are you really sure that he can be a grand prix horse??

didnt mean to have a go:D

Most likely because he isn't tall enough.
