Your thoughts on docking tails please

Just to sidetrack entirely:p, these ones go in the States for $1000 each:eek::eek::eek:

Not that they aren't beautiful, but HOW MUCH?????:eek::eek::eek:

$1000 is only about £700 though isn't it? We have plenty of pups for that price over here!!

In that case, I shall have two. For each hand:p:D

Henry is looking more and more like a bargain each day, and cos he has his tail I got a more economial rate in £'s per inch of dog:D:D:D

£1.86 / inch in fact (yes, I am that bored)

****frantically looks for measuring tape****

:D :D :D :D

(Sorry for taking this thread off in such a strange direction, I'm sure someone will be here so to get it back on track and allow it to descend it into the good old debate it normally does :D)

Apologies, first dog (if anybody remembers, he was being handled by the sickeningly good looking girl in the teeny tiny vest and cycling shorts!!!) went for 35k in Euros, not dollars :o still, not to be sniffed at!!!

Henry is now so used to this kind of thing, he didn't even open both eyes as I started measuring him nose to tail as he snoozed on the sofa:D:o:o:D

That's still more than I earn in a year **goes to throw self off bridge, then grits teeth and reminds self money isn't everything... money isn't everything...**

£1.77/inch :D What a bargainous and very long dog I have! :D

 I should demand a refund, or some kind of John Lewis style price match guarantee!:D

Mind you, Henry is an economy seven model in the feeding stakes, unlike certain racing snakes I could summon to mind;)

Sorry OP, it is some kind of strange effect caused by spangle ownership:o What CC's excuse is we shall never know:p

True, he makes up for the bargain price in his day to day life - eating posh food and razor blades :D
Plus Henry is fairly self-sufficient, what with all those picnics he gorges himself on! :D

Henry is always mindful of the family finances - what a Good Dog;)

There is a reason why working dogs are docked.

I have had a number of working spaniels and they have all been docked.

I have seen in the shooting field spaniels that have not been docked end up with damaged tails and the ending up having the tail docked.

The correct length of a docked tail is the width of a mans hand. This allows you to be able to get hold of the tail without hurting the dog when the dog goes into cover.

*cough cough* I wish I hadnt worked this out
Flora...with undocked tail is £17.77 per inch
Milo....£16.66 also undocked
Damn AAD! :D

A friend always docks and dewclaws his working cockers or rather has them done by the vet, signed off and chipped even though some go as pets; he wouldn't dream of leaving their tails on, they cause far too much trouble for them.

I did, although I must add the disclaimer that Henry refused to uncurl for such a frivolous reason, so my measurement may not be entirely accurate:p

Otto shot up from his deep slumber at the sound of the tape measure rolling out, poor sod's tail was so far between his legs I would have had to measure it in minus figures :D :D So mine may not have been that accurate either!

Well thank goodness two of mine are as well, almost makes up for the other two distinctly less bargainous dogs!

Back on track ladies!

These pups have been docked and dew claws removed. I doubt they went to the vet!
Am I asking for trouble if I get one of these pups? As in when I take it to the vets for jabs etc, are they going to ask questions I can't answer or get the farmer into trouble.

I know the farmer very well and have done for years. I know his dogs very well which is why I would like one of his pups.

Working terriers can be legally docked so it shouldn't cause a problem.

Ditto that and besides, you don't need to take his papers in to the vets anyway. It was done before you bought him/her, you're not necessarily going to know who did it are you. If they object find another vet that's a bit more practical and not so damn righteous.

Sorry, vets are a very sore point ATM, through their mismanagement, poor dog has needed an op and if that doesn't work it'll be an amputation which for a young lurcher is not funny.

I personally, would have no concerns buying one of these pups re the docking. He's done you a favour removing the dew claws aswell. I doubt the vet would ask any questions, its none of his business.

I`ve got a Sprocker pup, who will be used for bushing....when he gets over his "I`m a lurcher not a spaniel" phase. I was told Sprockers cant be docked regardless whether they`re working dogs or not????
