Zoom may have to go on loan - help needed :(

As I have mentioned a few times, I'm going to vet school in September WHOOOOOOOP!!! :D

I now have to work out how on earth I am going to finance it :p

I have just had a conversation with my mum about my beloved Zoomy. There is NO way i would sell her or rehome her since she is my baby. However, there is a possibility that she will have to go on loan for part of the time I am at uni. My parents are selling up and going to France. It is possible that she could go out there with them for a couple of years, however my mum is a real beginner and so couldn't ride Zoomy and I really think she would be bored out of her brain.

This is only going to happen if there is no way I can possibly have her here but I am worried that, if it comes down to it.......no one would loan her :(

Good bits:
PERFECT to load, clip, lead, shoe, worm etc - she really is very easy
Has done local HT up to 2'6 and local SJ and jumped round loads of sponsored rides
NEVER bucks/bolts etc
Hunted 4 times and was perfect, doesn't pull and will go first or last
Played high-goal polo before losing the eye but has been a top horseball horse since then and is amazing and brave
a lovely person :)

Bad bits:
Can be VERY fizzy. She has excellent brakes and would never run off but can dance around sometimes and be a bit joggy - however this has improved so much and continues to improve.
Her flatwork is getting better and better but the polo pony in her means she will never be a dressage diva.

I could look for a horseball home for her since she is awesome.....or maybe polocrosse (don't know if she can play with one eye?). She would excel at mounted games etc too - maybe a pony club home.
She loves hunting but the only problem is she will never be a big jumping horse. She will jump 3 foot happily but I don't think I would be happy with her attempting the really big jumps.

I really hope it doesn't come down to this but if she has to go for a year or so.....do you think anyone would ACTUALLY want her??

Personally, I think loads of people would want her!

at the end of the day there are SO many people out there looking a nice horse that can do a bit of everything but maybe don't have the full finances to fork out on actually buying one (but have a nice regular income of course which means they can keep one) if that makes sense

you've said yourself she has so many good points. but she's fizzy - so what? make sure you advertise her as needing an experienced, gentle rider. There are LOADS of inexperieced riders out there who'd LOVE a horse to call 'their own' (as mentioned above)

If you sell her, you'd probably end up depressed and not able to do your degree properly (Bravo by the way!) so you are SO much better of putting her out on loan to someone that you can vet, keep in touch with and know how Zoom is getting on.

does this make sense?

I know it's hard but sometimes you have to take a back seat from your horses and concentrate on you - which right now is your amazing prospects with your vet degree.
 
I am thinking the same with Millie at the moment, she is great but also has her bad bits and it makes me think will anyone want her!?

With Zoom being bigger then Millie I would have thought it would be easy to find her a loan home with a confident teenager that won't care if she gets a bit fizzy! She sounds like such a great horse that could give the right person a lot of fun, so no I don't think you'll have any problems finding a loan home for her :)
 
I don't think you'd have much trouble. There are loads of adults out there who like riding ponies and would be quite happy never to jump more than 3', especially if she is a safe hack.

If she is that good at horseball\polo cross you would probably have no trouble loaning her out through the a club.
 
Thanks hun. As I said, it will be a last resort but I am not willing to keep her with me unless I can give her 100% attention (and money!).

I suppose when you put it like that.....she is a pretty good horse :D. I just get worried since there is only one girl at my field who will even ride Zoom since people get worried about her fizziness! We are not 'proper' horse people though so maybe other yards have more experienced people.
 
Yes, you'd be surprised the amount of people will want her.

You will have to find good people and be picky, but you will find somewhere for her!!

I had at least 10 calls about bean, and she could only hack lightly!!

She is bombproof - I even ride her up Richmond high street sometimes :D When I went to pony camp a professional polo player did a demo on her and she was absolutely amazing. He wanted to take her home!!!

The only potential problem with that is it may undo all the calm quiet work I've been doing with her!
 
Where will you be based for uni? Living at home? Because one other option if you end up moving more north london ish (RVS in camden/herts isn't it?) would be to maybe get a sharer for her - you'd then have a bit of money coming in to help fund a different yard in herts/N london, and you'd still be seeing/riding her a few times a week? Can totally understand if you think its cleaner/easier/more responsible to loan her out properly though. Just a thought....
 
You can have her Amy! :D I suppose a sharer could be an idea. I'm in Camden the first year so hopefully she can stay where she is for now......it's just the money and time issues :( I just don't want her to sit there doing nothing.

PS mum and dad are selling up so the main problem is I will be homeless! Finding money for rent will be hard enough without livery on top of it all.
 
If it were't for the size, I'd offer to share/loan her. Sounds perfect for me, and I've no objection to fizz if I know they're not going to tank off. But I'm currently hovering around 13 stone, and am never likely to get much less than that.

I'm in Wimbledon, can I ask where you keep her?
 
Vet school - WOW - brilliant.

As you have a bit of time in hand you could consider lending her to one the the Equine Colleges. I have had good and bad experiences so you have to check them out really carefully, but that means you would get her back for the holidays.

If you are looking for September, they often like them for a month next term - so they can check the horse is suitable and you can check that you are happy with what they offer.

We are in Osterley park in West London so not far from you. She is a skinny tb but I am usually involved in the 'am I too heavy' threads since I'm actually 12 stone EEEEEK!

That is a really good idea! I hadn't thought about that. She is totally rubbish at flatwork though - would that be a problem?? She'll do it, just in the manner of a giraffe!!!

also i've just thought there are a couple of girls at the yard who currently share horses but are thinking of clubbing together to get their own... i might see what they would say to a loan for a bit? Cos then obv I could keep an eye on her (excuse the poor choice of phrase given its zoomy!) as she'd be at my yard. only issue is that she wouldn't have 24hr turnout in the winter....

To be honest that's absolutely fine. She has been stabled 24/7 for periods of box-rest and when i take her away and she is very quiet in the box. Yay for Amy!!! :D

Hopefully I'll be able to keep her but I need to think of the practicalities :(
