    Adiponectin levels

Does anyone know anything about the scale that vets use for blood tests checking adiponectin levels in a horse with EMS? I was told that a month ago, the lowest you would want a score to be (seasonally adjusted) was 3, but on what kind of scale? I'm struggling to find anything about it...

    Am I being ridiculous?

Both of mine get it, it suits them both well (very elderly Shetland and an Arab). They weren't keen to start with but I chuck a small handful of fibre plus nuggets in and they come running for it

    Rats, rats... & more rats!!!

I bought a 5 kilo tub of bait a couple of years ago and was putting it in places out of reach of horses etc. The rats obviously decided that wasn't enough as they chewed the lid off of he tub and cleared it out - there must have been 3kilos left before they did that. Didn't see a rat for a...

If I was in the market for an arab

I have what you want!!!! She isn't for sale though, but they do exist! Mine is mostly crabbet, built like a brick outhouse - never daft, never silly, has a beautiful face and a fab personality. All this came for a shade over £2k. I put a wanted ad on arablianlines and someone contacted me.

Shoeing nightmare - hates the banging of nails in!

My mare was like this when I got her. I started by tapping her shoes with her hoof pick, then giving her a treat when she was good, and if she played up, I just let her compose herself for a few seconds and then did it again until she did behave. Gradually moved up to a hammer, first gently...

    Endurance/Pleasure Ride Update

I found that having lucozade sport or something similar to drink when doing the rides made my legs hurt less the next day - I didn't realise how much of a difference it made until I just had normal orange squash one day and hurt like hell the next day!

Endurance, and a horse who prefers canter to trot?

Alot of the rides have more than enough places to bowl along at a good canter - I used to, where the terrain suited, canter on for as long as the horse was happy - that way you would almost bank time, which you could use to walk in the last few miles, that way you pretty much guarantee a nice...

    stupid question......

.....do you measure girths from buckle to buckle or exclude the buckles?! Not sure how I have managed to get this far in life without knowing the answer to this! Does anyone else have any daft things they didn't know that they would like to finally find out?!

    Recommend Horse Transporter - Devon

another vote for willhayes - they brought phoebe back from dorset for me - first time travelling in 9 years, she arived asleep, without a drop of sweat on her - he didn't rush to take her down the ramp, but took his time and got her to wait at the top and look around, then walked her gently down.

Teaching a horse to stand still for mounting

Mine was a bit like this when I first got her - very cheeky - she would stand quietly until i got on to the mounting block and then turn to face me. She is really food orientated thought, so I spend about 20 mins one afternoon with her in a headcollar by the block, giving her a few pony nuts...
