Young horse bucking - second instalment

Sadly I have to agree. You have to wait until she's in a better place with the PSSM. My PSSM gelding has had a very bad month or two as well, just recovering now that his coat is through which may be a coincidence or it might have been affecting him, who knows?

Young horse bucking - second instalment

Are you sure the PSSM is under control? Freddy has a huge buck when he is in pain and unable to move forwards which makes him appear nappy and grumpy. In reality when the PSSM is under control he is bombproof and very happy. You also say that the muscles of one side are underdeveloped, has a...

    Reason behind laziness?

There is a DNA test for the first variant of PSSM, but he would have needed a biopsy to test for the second one - not the kind of thing you forget having done!

    Whiny dog

Sounds like the problem is boredom in this case, poor dog. For what it's worth barking/whining through the night was the first sign of dementia in my dog. Then he started trying to fit through gaps that were clearly too small, so loss of special awareness, and finally unprovoked aggression...

    Reason behind laziness?

My horse was lazy and nappy for years for no obvious physical reason despite numerous vet exams. Turns out he has PSSM. Why is your friend so keen on this horse? Sounds like a money pit either way and there is a good chance that whatever is causing his problems cannot be cured. I would never...

Long and Low bad for your horse...?

What does long and low have to do with rolkur?! No one is saying he didn't retrain the horse well, only that he could have done it without talking rubbish.

Long and Low bad for your horse...?

The stretch a horse can achieve in long and low also depends on the level of its training and fitness. A young, unfit horse will fall on the forehand more easily, an advanced, fit horse will find it easier to maintain the shoulders 'up' even when stretching quite low.

Long and Low bad for your horse...?

Yep, i have no problem with someone who trains horses successfully, or someone who trains riders successfully, but this recent obsession with branding your unique approach, giving it a misleading pseudoscientific name (horsanalities anyone?), pronouncing everyone else to be not just wrong but...

Long and Low bad for your horse...?

THIS IS NOT SCIENCE. Not even close. Taking a video with a hand held camera and writing some gobbledegook on the internet is not science. Scientists have robust hypothesis, they have appropriate methodologies, they have explicit argumentation, they situate their work in light of the work of...

Why it is unethical to use homeopathy on horses

Thanks ycbm, I didn't realize that. What a mess!

Why it is unethical to use homeopathy on horses

Parents are certainly being prosecuted for not seeking appropriate medical treatment for their gravely ill children and relying instead on naturopaths and other quacks who peddle homeopathy, natural remedies and herbalism (the latter without any medical knowledge. I have nothing against using...

Why it is unethical to use homeopathy on horses

Just because someone is a trained vet doesn't mean they won't make mistakes. Just because someone is a trained vet doesn't mean that they will always be able to diagnose a problem. Just because something can treat a condition doesn't guarantee that it will always do so, or do so without...

Why it is unethical to use homeopathy on horses

Aristotle did not need to attempt to sail off the edge of HHe earth to prove in was not flat, he used scientific methodology to deduce that it was round. He had three observations: 1 Certain stars disappear off the northern hemisphere as one travels south and the other way round. 2 the earth's...

Has your horse ever "tied up".

Interestingly a number of physios failed to find anything wrong with Freddy and all remarked that there was not a lot to work on in terms of stiffness. While working he does become very stiff but the physio doesn't normally examine him during or right after work.

Dogs behaviour around baby, help please?

I also agree that you dog is becoming stressed by the baby crying and you have to be extremely careful. Baby gates, a park and any other means of keeping them separate unless you are closely supervising the situation are all useful. You may also want to try Adaptil and/or Zylkene to help your...
