You've already had lots of good advice, I just wanted to say that "things will improve" for sure. You need hacking buddies, horsey neighbours and a sympathetic instructor.
6 years ago we moved to our own land in a new area with a new 5 year old RID and my old boy. It wasn't all plain sailing...
Great advice given already, I just wanted to say....enjoy every minute! We have had our own land, stables and school for 6 years now, yes, it's hard work and hubby has turned into a mechanic/engineer/farmer/ Mr Fixit...you will soon discover that paying other people drains your cash too quickly...
Sorry but I can't see too much wrong with it? Some years ago we watched the Palio in Siena where horses did have riders...but if they parted company then a riderless horse was still a winner if it finished first....which happened...no weight to carry!
Good all rounders seem very thin on the ground at the moment! I've had 2 friends looking all year, one has found theirs after 3 failed vettings, one is still looking. When I was looking 6 years ago, I wanted a 10-12 year old TBx, they all had health problems so I ended up with a just 5 year old...
Ooh! You can't beat a good Irish Draft, she looks like my boy who I've had for 6 years. He's never refused a jump, enjoys flatwork and will turn his hoof to anything thrown at him. Most importantly, after a competition ending suspensory injury with my TB, I wanted chunky legs on my new horse and...
I'm a real fan too! I've had 4 in total for my 2 horses as they live in them bar a few hours in the stable. They work with my itchy boy and the one that hates horseflies, don't slip and seem to stay cool. If they wrapped around the belly they would be perfect...and they wash in a normal machine...
No native breeds but Somali ponies were popular with kids in the 60's, I have no idea where they came from originally but were hardy good doers. Arabs were also very popular for better riders. I haven't lived there for years but I think every breed is probably available now. They don't do well...
Ashamed to say that I have to sit on my hands when I see a lovely pale dun for sale. Is it a sweeping assumption that all duns are easy characters...and have cheesy names?
I think it's a throwback to my first pony in the 60's, a dun Somali pony called Lollipop. He was a pickle but I loved him...
In answer to your full seat question, I have just ordered a pair of Dublin cool gel tights which have a full silicone seat. Who knows what they will be like, I don't have a clue as riding tights are new to me! Will keep you posted....
Surely everyone has a neighbour/friend/paid doggy person who can let their dogs out once in a while instead of dragging them round to be stood on, boiled if long coated and generally irritating everyone?
We have 2 dogs and they live at home. They are much loved and prefer it.
