When is it time to let go?

I've just had a long chat with the vet who knows her best. The swelling on the knee is getting worse and is hardening, her concern is that a piece of bone has come off or maybe a growth. An increase in danilon hasn't helped and vet said in her opinion if 2 a day doesn't help then 4 isn't going...

When is it time to let go?

Annagain - that is a very good question and one I have never thought about. She only has very low grade cushings, was treated with prascend which had no effect other than to cause depression and loose bowels. It was agreed with the vet that the best course of treatment was diet and exercise...

When is it time to let go?

Thanks for all the replies. She's been on turmeric to no relief. Previously Supaflex over winter was enough to improve stiffness. She is a tough old bird and will keep going, in her head she really wants to keep going but her body isn't happy. I start to see the light going out in her eyes...

When is it time to let go?

I don't buy into this romantic notion that my horse will let me know when it's time. I think horses do their best to please as much as they can and rarely let on that life is getting too much. I had hoped that I would have a better understanding of when the time is right but I'm just not sure...

Insurance question- do they record passport details for exclusion?

I have spoken to breeder and trainer but there is a 2 year gap in her history. Last owner on passport was in 2012 and attempts to contact them so far have proved fruitless. Farrier is coming fri and I have asked her to tell him to leave shoes off and do a conservative trim so she doesn't go foot...

Insurance question- do they record passport details for exclusion?

Thank you ladyt25 for answering my question. I don't need to give anymore info than I have, she was bought at Beeston by someone who owns an abattoir and she thinks she is worth a shot. As far as I am concerned I would be saving her, end of.

Insurance question- do they record passport details for exclusion?

She is currently with a lady who owns an abattoir, that I do know!

Insurance question- do they record passport details for exclusion?

I am considering buying a horse that has been saved from abattoir. She is a pretty tb mare, retired after 2 races sound. I have no recent history about her other than she was saved from Beeston sales 2-3 weeks ago. Despite her feet being in awful condition she walks and trots sound. However, I...

Tracing horse-'saffy' race name Shot Silk

Yes- have managed to get her racing history and also some info from breeder. Just trying to fill in the blanks as to why she ended up in sales etc. I have a name and postcode in passport for owner from last year so trying to trace them. She has terrible feet with heart bars so I suspect she...

Tracing horse-'saffy' race name Shot Silk

Trying to get some background on a horse that was sold at Beeston around 2-3 weeks ago. She's a 15.3 chestnut mare, 5 years old bred in 2008. Her race name was shot silk and stable name is saffy. She only raced twice and was rubbish. Trying to find out why she ended up in the sales and if anyone...

Horse out on loan - should I ask for her back??

I could offer a little support if needed, although my hubby wouldnt be too happy about this! He would rather she come back than him pay for a horse I don't have the benefits of using. She is a good loaner and I have been very happy with the arrangement so far. We have plenty of turnout at my...

Horse out on loan - should I ask for her back??

Thanks for all the opinions and advice. I do have a good relatioship with my loanee and don't want to cut my nose off to spite my face as such. This isn't a short term issue, she has gone from 2 incomes to 1 and if she is working overtime on a weekly basis to fund the livery then is she able to...

Horse out on loan - should I ask for her back??

Yes there is an agreeement - she has to give a months notice to return her but it was left open at my end - if I had concerns about her welfare etc I could get her back.

Horse out on loan - should I ask for her back??

She's not close enough to share unfortunately. I feel a bit like I am sticking the knife in as she's very upset over the split but my priority is my horse, I've had her 13 years so she is very special to me.

Horse out on loan - should I ask for her back??

Just need a bit of advice- my 20 year old TB mare went out on a 12mth loan last year as a light hack/companion. There are no concerns with her care or anything at the moment but the loaners circumstances have changed. The 12mth loan period is up in August but the loaner wanted to keep her...
