    not infront of the children!

Ha ha, brilliant! My son, when he'd just started school, had a lesson about relationships and marriage, so of course it being 2012 they covered gay marriage. To which my son piped up in front of the class "I know all about this - I was there when daddy married 'Uncle Russell'." The teacher...

Trespassing: why do people do it?!

Ahhh, all property is theft isn't it?! Don't forget it is 'our' money that is being paid to landowners for maintaining those tempting bits of grass verge and field margins. However they are being paid to maintain these wild areas for our flora and fauna to survive and florish not for cloppity...

Qualifications needed for opening a riding school for the disabled?

Another thought, psychotherapists are increasingly using horses to help treat patients. That may interest you if you want to study to PhD level.

Qualifications needed for opening a riding school for the disabled?

Hi there The Riding for the Disabled Association is the organisation that runs riding centres for disabled riders across the country - http://www.rda.org.uk/ I would contact them to find out how to volunteer for your local group and find out if there are any opportunities for careers. I Best...

    Those with young children...

That's another thing I was going to say. If you've got the dosh, how about a morning once a week with a childminder or a nursery? At that age most seem to love a few hours in that kind of environment - the novelty does wear off for them though!

    Those with young children...

I would leave riding to the weekend when you can go on your own, if you factor getting there, getting horse ready, cups of tea/biscuits and lots of gossip, oh and a nice leisurely ride, it easily can take 3-4 hours. If the horses/dogs/etc are good around kids then you can take your 2 year old...

    Colic :-(

I would get vet out as diarrhea can be a sign of impaction as the poo is pushed past the blockage. I don't call the vet straight away when my horse is colicy as sometimes colicy symptoms just pass (probably a gas episode), but you don't in my experience get diarrhea with a gas colic. If she is...

if you could no longer care for your horse..

How about retirement livery? It costs from around £140 upwards per month for full grass livery, with all care provided including teeth and feet trimming. Just vet bills on top (just!!), My horse is retired and it is a great service.

    Monshall Retirement Livery Devon

I visited Monshall for my gelding. I would have had no hesitation in sending him there but it was a very long way from my home. Luckily I found a great retirement home for him within an hour's drive of my house, but Monshall was great. Natalie who runs it is a very genuine person, horses were...

    Neoprene wellies

I have le chameau and have had them for about 7 years, they are still in perfect condition. Expensive though, but I have never had cold feet. They are slim in the leg. The look good too, love 'em!

They saw me coming (again)....Sorry bit of a moan :(

I wouldn't worry about age, my horse is 21 and absolutely looks like a 10 year old and behaves like a 5 year old! It's all a state of mind...

    Keeping horses in Garden?

Totally depends where you live, we wanted to buy a house down a private driveway with one third of an acre and no bordering neighbours, the planners would not even give permission for a garage. This was near Sevenoaks in Kent in an AONB. We live near the greenbelt where permission for anything...

    working from home?

Hi there I've worked at home for 5 years, have two children, 5 and 2 years, horse. Went back to work when no 2 was 5 months as working at home makes that a lot easier. I am a freelance web editor and also do social media moderation. The pay for this is low at between £8.50 and 13.50 an hour...

How are you meant to get eyedrops in a horse??

This made me laugh as I just drop them into the corner of my horse'e eye with no drama. He just stands there and blinks helpfully for me. Sorry, but it's true! Still he does trash his water buckets on a weekly basis so not all perfect...

    Colic Surgery (Urgent!)

Sorry to read you post, horrible. 6 years ago it cost 3.5k for just the hospital stay for my boy who coliced badly, I was quoted another 3.5 for surgery. I was insured and they paid in full, but now am not due to the colic exclusion on my policy. I seems as if it can be anything from 3.5 to 8k...
