    Cute things non-horsey people say....

My darling husband, "When you buy another one, will you get another calamari?" First pony is a CONNEMARA, he got the first letter right, quite cute really.

Does anyone have or know a nutty Connemara?

I've owned my connemara for over 10 years now and when I first got him I could barely ride one side of him and he was never dangerous to handle but was always ready to run, couldn't keep weight on him as he was so anxious all the time. I would love to say he's totally changed...he hasn't, I've...

    Any lameness gurus out there?

Yes she showed no improvement all the way up to the stifle. Vet didn't want to block her SI at the yard but I am wondering whether to find the money and get her down to liphook for an SI nerve block...might tell me more than keeping her in going stir crazy, although she is still out as we speak...

    Any lameness gurus out there?

I just can't get my head around why she is slightly better...if there is a fracture and I'm working her on it surely she would be showing more sign of discomfort and lameness? I'm at work atm but will see if I can attach some videos this evening.

    Any lameness gurus out there?

She is definitely lame, worse on a circle but not as bad when ridden. Box rest, no mention of cross tying just that she needs a very small space.

    Any lameness gurus out there?

Where to begin? I actually posted a thread on here months back entitled 'Very worried' or something similar. Turns out I was right to be. My horse had a holiday between xmas and new year of this year, brought her back into work, did a few bits and bobs with her (low level jumping) and she didn't...

    Awful hack on new horse

Sounds like nobody has really put any real effort into teaching him manners and maybe he didn't do anything like that with the old owner because life was on his terms most of the time. My mare dropped her shoulder and span quite violently the first few times I hacked her, and it's still her go...

    Anyone watch the Hickstead Derby?

I was sitting in the members directly in front of that green wall so saw the whole awful thing. Was not impressed by people in the crowd yelling STOP and whistling when he was obviously desperately trying, he basically threw himself on the floor to stop the poor thing. So devastating for...

    Please watch this video.

I agree this works, but you have to be quite ballsy sometimes. My old boss would get me to babysit her youngsters with me on a schoolmaster going down the middle of the road with my hand up yelling STOP and then waving and smiling like a loon when they actually did, it did work but I got a lot...

    Cultural differences?

It's not the norm here for several reasons, one is time- its quicker to tack a horse up yourself (from a groom's point of view) than to show someone where the tack is, make sure they're being safe (horse tied up etc) then check it before they get on, for private lessons its not such a big deal...

    Hind Lameness... Nerve blocking ?

It depends on a lot of things, vet preference, flexion tests, your horse's temperament. Mine had a similar sounding lameness to yours and I think we got all the way up the leg in about 3 sessions. The fetlock and hoof are quick ones but as you get higher up it seems to take longer. My girl is...

Sacroiliac pain :( trying not to assume the worst!

I know its hard but try not to do too much googling! Could be so many things but do you have insurance? That area is notoriously hard to scan so the vet will probably recommend a bone scan and they are pricey! I was caught out with my horse's SI pain and had to diagnose by process of elimination...

    SI injections.. any success stories???

Mine had them 3 weeks ago. She came back from a holiday lame and with very uneven hindquarters, I think she must have injured it in the field as she does like to prat about, I think the muscle wastage has definitely improved, I'm walking either mounted or on long reins for up to and hour with a...

    Old wives tale?

Hmmm maybe I will point that out. My other favourite one is how precious she is about his tail because it has to be kept full and thick to balance out his large bottom. Personally I'm not sure that works either, there's no hiding his apple bottom!
